Shoemaker Levy Crash
Comets A&B crash site

This photo was taken in July of 1994 within a few hours of the first comet crash into a planet ever recorded! While it is not the clearest photo I have ever taken considering the planet Jupiter is 500 million miles away, was very low on the horizon and was shining thru a haze in the atmosphere I am happy with this. At first when I developed the photos I didn`t think I got anything but upon closer inspection with a magnifying glass I realized that I did. Though faint I was lucky enough to record at least one of the crash sites! Bad weather prevented me from getting any other pictures of the event which lasted several days. The strong red hue in the photo is due to the atmospheric haze. The picture was taken with the 8" scope using eyepiece projection at F65 for 4 seconds on Kodak 100.
