UMCOR Responds to Philippines Typhoon
The United Methodist
Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Philippines is working with
its local partners to provide relief to those affected
by Typhoon Ketsana in the Philippines. According
to the National Disaster Coordination Council (NDCC)
nearly half a million people are affected. Hours
of heavy rain and high winds caused flashfloods and
landslides. 144 people are confirmed dead, and
that number is expected to rise as new deaths are
reported.
The BBC reports that 80% of
Manila is underwater, displacing 450,000 people.
Support for UMCOR's relief work in the Philippines can
be made through Trinity church or on-line through
Philippines Emergency, UMCOR Advance #240235 at this
