I was born on 8 August 1956, in Providence, capital of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. The family moved to Warwick RI in October 1962. I attended Providence College from 1974-1978, paying my tuition by working summers as a busboy in the Shore Dinner Hall at Rocky Point Park. I took a B.S. in Physics from the Department of Physics, now folded into the Department of Engineering-Physics-Systems. The college no longer offers a B.S. in physics.
I spent two years in the Laboratory for Atmospheric Research (since evolved into the Dept. of Atmospheric Research) at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign). I lived in this house at 404 E. White.
I took my M.S. in Atmospheric Science to the Laboratory for Atmospheric Science (LAS) at Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt MD. LAS, "Code 911", no longer exists, but most of the people and projects there are now part of the Laboratory for Atmospheres, "Code 910".
The group I worked with gradually morphed into the Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies, first sitting at the Department of Meteorology at the University of Maryland, College Park (1984-1993), now at the Institute for Global Environment and Society in Calverton MD.
