I picked this one up for US$10.00 at a local megastore. It's a combination
of excerpts from Monterey Pop, Bless Its Pointed Little Head, Surrealistic
Pillow, and Takes Off. Only the last cut has not been released
on a mainstream recording. A more accurate subtitle might be "Mostly
Live and Previously Released '66-'68".
Titles are listed below as they are listed on the jacket; actual titles
should be obvious.
- Other Side of Life - Monterey Pop
- Somebody to Love - Bless Its Pointed Little Head (BIPLH)
- Plastic Fantastic Lover - BIPLH
- White Rabbit - Surrealistic Pillow
- 3/5 of a Mile in Ten Seconds - BIPLH
- She Has Funny Cars - Monterey Pop
- High Flyin' Bird - Monterey Pop
- It's No Secret - BIPLH
- Today - Monterey Pop - The version in the movie has been edited,
probably to chop out some problems in the mix early on. Has this ever been
featured on a legitimate LP/CD release? I have seen the complete JA Monterey
Pop set, but only on what I assumed were bootlegs.
- My Best Friend - Surrealistic Pillow
- Don't Slip Away - Jefferson Airplane Takes Off
- This is My Life and I Like it - Don't know the source of this. It's
a clean recording of either a performance or rehearsal. I'd judge it to
be late 1965/early 1966 from the slowhanded, ultratone Jerry Kaukonen solo.
I can't hear Signe or Grace in the mix. Other folks peg this
recording as Summer/Fall 1966. (4:56 total time)
