Import Mobile Device Files

Data files of games scored on Palm or Windows Mobile devices may be imported into the database. This is currently the only method of getting data into the PcHoops database.

Hoops creates three files that contain data for each game scored. These files are named by Hoops on the mobile device with a name that consists of a file type identifier followed by the name of the game. The file type identifier is the first portion of the name. The three file types are:

PcHoops allows you to select any of the three types of files, and it will import all the data from the game.

Palm Files

To import files scored on your Palm device, you must first locate the files. When you HotSync your Palm device, the Hoops game files are backed up to your PC in the directory where the Palm Desktop software is installed. This is normally in C:/Program Files/Palm, but could be elsewhere if you chose a different installation directory.

To find the Hoops files, select "Import" from the Games menu and navigate to c:/Program Files/Palm (or wherever you installed the Palm Desktop). Then navigate to the directory that is your Hotsync User Name. Under the UserName directory is a directory called "Backup", and this is where the Hoops data files are stored. You can identify the hoops data files by their prefix ("hpi", "hpd", or "hps) and you can identify a particular game by its name as the last portion of the file name. All files will have the extension ".pdb".

Select a file and PcHoops will read the three data files and refresh the main screen with the additional data.

Windows Mobile (StyleTap) Files

To import files scored on your Windows Mobile device, you must first locate the files and copy them to your PC. When your Palm device is connected with ActiveSync, you can find the files by browsing to "Mobile Device" under "My Computer". The Hoops game files are stored in the install location of StyleTap, which is under "My Pocket PC/Program Files/StyleTap" by default. Browse to the "db" directory under StyleTap.

The files will be named as they are in the Palm, but with the addition of a long signature following the game name. This signature is uniquely generated by StyleTap for each file. Select all the Hoops files (files beginning with "hpi", "hpd", and "hps" and copy them to a directory of your choice on your PC.

In PcHoops, select Import from the Games menu and browse to the directory where you copied the Hoops files. Select the file to import and PcHoops will read the three data files and refresh the main screen with the additional data.
