White Christmas

Christmas is just 11 days away and I am ready! Are you? Did you shop, ask for stuff, decorate, wear red and green, say a couple ho ho hos and etc??? What else would it take to be ready for the big event. [sing along] Christ the savior is born... Christ the savior is born.

Okay, all that stuff I just mentioned and that many of us did in this frantic holiday season has not really prepared us at all. The preparation is all done in the heart. Listen to how John the Baptist commanded people to get ready for Christ's appearance:

Matthew 3:1-3

   In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea
    and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

  This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:
    "A voice of one calling in the desert,
    'Prepare the way for the Lord,
    make straight paths for him.' "
Then he went on to call some religious leaders "vipers" and stuff that made them uncomfortable and just plain mad. Oh, they wanted to get even. He knew that all their preparation was done on the outside (think tinsel and lights), but nothing was really ready on the inside. He called them on their "holier than thou" attitude. They weren't wholly, or even partly ready.

You prepare by opening your heart. You give gifts because your heart is open. You prepare by allowing Christ's light to shine within. Decorations should be a reflection of a life that is bright with the glow of love. All that "stuff" we wrap ourselves in should only should be an afterthought. The reaction to Christ coming into our world and changing us on the inside. Let us give others a peek of Christ's presence. Not just the usual presents.

Baby talk

Oh! Guess what? Miracle happening! To me... right now... before my eyes. And you didn't think miracles happened anymore!

What happened is what has happened so many times that people don't always consider it miraculous. Some don't. The "scientific minded" who think that everything can be explained through natural means and that there are no super-natural forces at work in our universe. Huh! They can explain everything!

The miracle, of course, is baby Alaina Faith Robinson.

A chip off the old block, don't ya think? She can be explained to some degree by our understanding how biology appears to work. Sure. That settles it (I am using sarcasm in this instance). All you have to believe is that life should naturally occur.

Psalm 139:13-14

   For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother's womb.

  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
Here is a link to Nova's series "Life's Greatest Miracle". Even though science does not believe in miracles, or so they say. The process of developing life is astounding at the very least. Even though it happens all the time. Just because miracles occur every day, they remain just as miraculous. Our understanding just scratches the surface. God's mighty hand actually does all the work. We simply try to take notes. And claim that we don't need him.

Thank you God for this miracle.

A 10 minute drive and a 3 hour paddle

We went on a canoe trip recently. It was a little excursion to offer the kids some adventure during Summer break. A short drive got us to the launch point and we were off. As the minutes became hours floating down the creek, one youth asked why it was taking so long. I waved my hand in the air, demonstrating the snake-like path of the creek. He thought it would be much more convenient if we went straight instead of snaking along. "Why would the creek go in such a ridiculous direction?" he wondered.

The Lord has created such an amazing variety in this world. From snaking rivers to river snakes. From the unending pattern of snowflakes, to majestic mountain peaks where they gather and accumulate in silent splendor. Why go to all the bother? What would cause an all-powerful God to go to such ridiculous lengths to make the lives of people, so often disobedient, unendingly interesting. (Did that sentence make sense?)

Love. Yeah, love. He must be filled beyond our comprehension with love. It can't be explained in any other way that we can grasp. Deservedness? What! We deserve a good spankin' maybe! We get treats instead. You may be in the middle of a trial that seems to include no treats, but look around. Other people's trials are as bad or worse. You walk, you talk, you have family, a puppy, birds outside your window, a nice climbing tree, indoor plumbing (yeah, an often overlooked blessing), water, soda, jump-rope, bicycle, music (even if it's just in your head), pizza, meatloaf... The list of blessing goes on forever.

Can we see blessings when we suffer? Yes. Are we looking? Maybe. Does God provide? Yes. Are we looking? Maybe. Is his gift of life an amazing, joyful, wonderful treat. Yes. Are we able to notice? Sometimes. Someone could give you a different flower every day of your life. You might be amazed by the variety and beauty of each. After 3 or 4 thousand, you might say, "Another stinkin' flower... I'm sick of flowers!"

I challenge you to like God's blessings. Maybe that is a little much..., to notice God's blessings every day. He doesn't stop. Ever. And they are deep, wide, expansive, ridiculously interesting winding rivers of discovery. God's infinite treasure, for our unending pleasure. Wow. Good times. And there are even better things to come. Possible?

Mission Possible

Hey, I was thinking about mission statements the other day and thought I oughta have one. So let's begin......

1. I will try my dangdest to live up to the following statements.

2. I believe in God (per Isaiah 43:10-11)

Isaiah 43:10-11
"You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.

3. I believe Jesus really lived and died for my salvation. (Luke 4:14-22)

 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him. He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked.

4. I believe it worked and I needed to let you know. (John 3:16-21)

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

5. I believe there is better to come. (John 14:1-3)

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."

Tom and the atheist

I made a new “friend” a couple months ago. His (screen)name is Cheerful Charlie. He is a devout atheist. He claims to have irrefutable proof that God cannot exist. I have been listening and trying to understand his point of view while attempting to give him a glimpse of my own. I am gently and subtly persuasive... to only myself. Neither of us have been persuaded to change the basis of our lives. Our beliefs are firmly held.

What can I say to make someone believe and put their life in Jesus' hands? Ultimately, nothing. I can show a changed life, tell why I believe, but one who is not asking, seeking, or knocking does not allow the giving, finding, or opening of the heart.

Matthew 7:7-8
 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

As I thought and prayed about reaching the lost as it relates to our young people I found (seeker that I am) that I needed to reduce my arguments to the simple understanding that it is Jesus, not Tom, who is convincing. We have a great longing that is filled by the person of Christ. The arguments of Tom, Cheerful Charlie, and many another philosophic rambler ring hollow and dull when compared to the words and deeds of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 7:9-11
 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."

What would I have a believer do unto me? If Charlie and my roles were reversed, I would have him point me to Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to work in my heart. I would not want Charlie to beat me over the head with his wisdom so that I would repent to him and follow his ways. (Back to the un-reversed roles) My ways fall short of Christ's ways. I would like to proudly lead Charlie out of the wilderness toward the light. But as often as not, I get sidetracked and would not be the perfect guide he needs.

Matthew 7:13-14
 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

I will lead as one who is not in the lead. Jesus will show me and any I can impact (come along Charlie) through the narrow gate. I have gone in and out of that wide gate enough to know that my leadership must submit to Christ's.

That's how I roll

There is an organization in Lancaster called The Center for Parent/Youth Understanding: CPYU.org on the web. They are a nonprofit organization committed to building strong families by serving to bridge the cultural-generational gap between parents and teenagers (their definition). Boy, that's what I want to do. I feel like I connect well with kids of all ages. I seem to have that ability.

What I am lacking in that ministry is the parent part. I don't spend near the time with parents as with youth. I believe that is an important part of youth ministry that I need to work on. Surely, the greatest youth ministers are those who spend and sacrifice all they have for their children... namely, their parents.

As some of you know, I will soon be immersed in that ministry myself (parenting) as Mandy and I are expecting a child this November. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully (from 1 Cor 13:12). The Bible has many verses that point out the parent/child ministry:

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 11:18, 19
Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Deuteronomy 4:9
In the paths of the wicked lie thorns and snares, but he who guards his soul stays far from them. Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:5, 6

return to normalcy

Hey you people of faith,

did you come to the retreat with us? did you have a good time? did God stir in your heart? did you hear his still, small voice? yes, God speaks in a whisper. many think that he moves with loud, angry words, and mighty judgement! yeah, but he most often speaks to you like this...
The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" 1 Kings 19:11-13
God's Spirit speaks to us quietly, urging us to follow and believe. Listening is important, but it should be followed by action.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22
Quiet is a neccessary part of the equation. Listen for God's word in your life... and then do what it says.

supernatural occurance

umm... i guess i will write about dreams and the supernatural. i like that word. super natural. like something normal but it has amazing strength. like the paper towels i use. they can wipe up libby's throw-up, clean the make-up off my cheeks, and still absorb 2 bricks and a donut. wow! that's some towel.

what else is super natural? mmm... hows about regular natural. like walking. it's super, but not given the credit it deserves. walking upright is a pretty good trick i learned when i was like 1.0562 years old. i think (my memory is a little shaky that far back)(like 14 yrs ago)(or so). we get pretty used to walking and even though every one you knew back then was clapping and jumping up and down to see you walk, it has since grown commonplace. big whoop! anyone can do that.

guess what? it is a big whoop. you could just tip over ya know. you gots yer balance thingy in your ear, your five little toesers keeping you from wobblin', gravity suckin you to the floor (no suck comments pls), yer chewin' gum (applies to the most coordinated among you), one foot is floppin' down in front of the other (with hardly ever a drag/trip, the kind of step where you don't lift your foot high enough and you almost trip yourself), and your just acting like it takes no effort at all. don't you remember how we clapped and celebrated your first steps? it's amazing. you've stepped many amazing steps so far.

why should super and natural go together? cause natural is not super? uh uh. natural is super, but we get over it. remember that girl you liked who made you swoon cause all the blood rushed outa your head and you tipped over. she is so last year. but not really. you just got used to her being so amazing, beautiful, smart, _____, etc. you should swoon and fall on your nose right now. clunk!

we get used to every super natural thing that happens to us, cause we are human (equals easily distracted, entertained, confused and forgetful). natural things that happened to you and me... poof! we're born (you squishy, wrinkly little skin sack of cuteness), you grow to amazing big person size (just like stretching in your skin sack, but no tearing and your face turned out really nice you cute big ole skin sack), you learned amazing calculations(abc, 123, hot/cold, talk/walk, learned myspace layout codes, the list goes on), but that is all so last years blog. i'm bored... blah blah blah.

get over bored (that made me think of MAN OVERBOARD!!!). get back to laughing and clapping and cheering cause your friend just took her first steps (today). WooHoo! that was awesome!!! cause we like her and want to encourage her to remember her super natural self. truly a miracle of God's creativity.


But how can a mortal be righteous before God? Though one wished to dispute with him, he could not answer him one time out of a thousand.

His wisdom is profound, his power is vast. Who has resisted him and come out unscathed?

He moves mountains without their knowing it and overturns them in his anger. He shakes the earth from its place and makes its pillars tremble. He speaks to the sun and it does not shine; he seals off the light of the stars.

He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea. He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.

He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted. When he passes me, I cannot see him; when he goes by, I cannot perceive him. If he snatches away, who can stop him? Who can say to him, 'What are you doing?'

If only there were someone to arbitrate between us, to lay his hand upon us both, someone to remove God's rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more. Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now stands with me, I cannot.

When tragedy strikes

Many of our friends were sad and questioning and filled with grief this weekend. We lost two teens to a car crash. I didn't know Charles Bates and Katie Eckert, but understand their friend's and family's feeling of loss. This type of loss, the death of a friend, happens to just about everybody.

I have three friends who died very young. Brandon was 16, Shelly was 19, Jimmy was 26. All died tragically, unexpectantly, when they had so much to live for. God's timing in not within our grasp. He gave us life, love, friendships, but they pass away.

After losing his entire family to a freak wind storm Job reacted like this:


At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said:

"Naked I came from my mother's womb,
and naked I will depart.
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
may the name of the LORD be praised."

In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing. Job 1:20-22

It is easy to question God. We want to understand his reasons. Sometimes we want to tell him he was wrong. Job new better. He knew that God blesses us and takes away from us without our permission. His wisdom is greater than our own.

We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 1 Corinthians 2:6-8

God does have a secret wisdom. His is beyond what we can comprehend. Scientists spend a lifetime studying the things God has created. There is no end in sight of things to discover.

Who has understood the mind of the LORD, or instructed him as his counselor? Isaiah 40:13

Nobody can instruct God. We can only trust him.

For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 1 Corinthians 1:19-21

God will give all things to those who patiently wait and trust. He gives and takes away. Blessed be his name.

a cannoli is food

holy cannoli! It's hard to keep up wit all da stuff I should. I would like to post interesting comments to draw you near to God. It's all I can do to keep myself walking in the right direction. Please keep going.

We had a coffeehouse with Alysia Sufrin and Tony Reichert Sunday, we have a retreat coming up, and a few of us went to White Castle for slyders and fries during the break. What?!? yeah, I know... what was I thinking?

We all enjoy the life God has given us. Let's do it together. But remember that we can't fall in love with this life...

HappyNewYear!

Hey, were you there for our new year party at laserdome? It was pretty fun with a lot of games, a few prizes, some laughter and tears, a midnight countdown, sparkling cider, and a couple vans full of teens. I hope that all will enjoy a spiritually fruitful new year. It is sure to be loaded with excitement and challenges.

I challenge you to stay connected and involved in our youth group. See... the 1st challenge of the new year. It's only day 2. Huh!

three strands don't break easy

Hey, I am here trying to write another entry to our grand blog-o-riffic blogdrive! I feel sorta lonely. I am not getting many views or comments. There was a man all alone... from Ecclesiastes 4....

8 There was a man all alone;
       he had neither son nor brother.
       There was no end to his toil,
       yet his eyes were not content with his wealth.
       "For whom am I toiling," he asked,
       "and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?"
       This too is meaningless—
       a miserable business!

 9 Two are better than one,
       because they have a good return for their work:

 10 If one falls down,
       his friend can help him up.
       But pity the man who falls
       and has no one to help him up!

 11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
       But how can one keep warm alone?

 12 Though one may be overpowered,
       two can defend themselves.
       A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Advancement Is Meaningless

 13 Better a poor but wise youth than an old but foolish king who no longer knows how to take warning. 14 The youth may have come from prison to the kingship, or he may have been born in poverty within his kingdom. 15 I saw that all who lived and walked under the sun followed the youth, the king's successor. 16 There was no end to all the people who were before them. I see that many things are meaningless, but it is always good to go through things with friends. A friend can pick you up.

We will be picking up friends for our new year run to laserdome this sunday night. We will be picking up more friends to do service projects including Ronald McDonald House in Hershey. End of January is the projected project date. Come to one and all things we do! later

why love?

The battle between good and evil... (ominous music please--da da da). Who would win in that fight. The meaner, ruthless, most frightening opponent? Nah. Love wins. Good wins. Just like you hoped and dreamed. Can you believe it?

1 John 4:18 
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Fear is part of the hate side. The tough guys belong to the love side. No fear. Struggling on to the end. That is love. It doesn't falter. It never fails. Evil only fails. It can't win. Think about it. Pray about it. Believe it... it's true.

1 Corinthians 13:8-13
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Hey, we went to the Lebanon food bank last night to help. We did this... look at can or box label, find the expiration date for the food... right down the number of the year it expires... (ie. 2007-we wrote a # 7, 2008- we wrote a # 8). Then we put the numbered cans on tables to sort by year and then by type of food. There was noodles and soup and tuna and peas and koolaid and count chocula and rice and stuffing and more stuff. We sorted a lot. Then we boxed it all to take to the store shelves. Then they will give it to people who have an emergency need for food.

The Rich Young Man
Mark 10:17-31

 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good—except God alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'"

 "Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy."

Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!"

The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?"

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!"

"I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first."

So, we are supposed to take care of the poor... but first take care to follow the Lord. Most important grasshopper!

oh yeah... guess what else?

We also decorated the church this past Sunday. We hung lights, decorated a tree, hung branchy, viney, long things. and set up the big room for a major chiknpotpie feast. It was yummy good.

We ate, listened to music and read the meaning of christmas traditions stuff. I read about the colors of Christmas. Red and green, ya know. I wasn't wearing red and green while I read about it.

The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God."

"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

There is a new movie called The Nativity Story out right now that goes over the story of Mary and Joseph, and the birth of Christ. I think I will check it out. Maybe we can discuss the movie later. Go see it and meet me back here. bye

faith not works

We are saved by faith, not works. Read Romans 9:30-33

What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the "stumbling stone." As it is written:

   "See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble
    and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who
    trusts in him will never be put to shame." (Isaiah 8:14; 28:16)

Still, we must work, We shouldn't just sit around reaping God's faithful blessings. So monday afternoon, out we went. We carried 50 bags of wood pellets from a back porch down to a wood stove in the basement. The elderly couple that needed the help were thankful for our service. We hung some wreathy stuff and looked at christmas flashy lights. We saw real life struggle and helped in the way that we could. That is all we can do. And what we should do.

our space

we met and did our hanging out this week. here, but not here... visited myspaces, sat in small piles of humanity, tugged heartstrings, chased, stood, swatted, and tossed. all these things are easy to do. no practice required. our faith is a practice. our existance is a "blah, here i am".

Matthew 28:19-20
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

a great commission is something that would impact your concious. make you think, even when you are chilly-chillin'. move you to action. that is where we all go sooner or later. see you there. when we all go home...

serving an ace

We went out on a service project this monday afternoon. Picking weeds... ugh! None were super excited about getting on our hands and knees to fight blades of grass in an amazon jungle of ground cover. Work doesn't last forever though, and we soon enough switched to the fun part of the work day. PIZZA! We devoured 2 pizzas in about 15 minutes and then shuffled our tele-tubby-tummies back home to spend the rest of the no-school day being our usual chillin' selves.

Matthew 9:37-38
Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."

We will continue to look for ways that we can serve others as we learn and grow in faith and strength. (But pray for us to not have to wrestle weeds again...)

Thanks for the turkey!

Thanksgiving has passed and we are all heavier and sleepier for it. Then on to black friday! Mandy and Tom stayed up all night to get a cheap laptop. Woohoo! We were not happy when people cut in line ahead of us, and when we were insulted. But..., we did end up with a new computer! woohoo!

Then Alysia Sufrin and Stereos played at our church. They were both great. Thanks to both for your awesome performances. People are blessed by your work. We will look forward to having you back this coming year.

We drank decaf and full caf and half caf until we couldn't hold it any more. We checkered ourselves silly. And we partied like it was 1999! What?

last night, today, and someday soon

it's another youth sunday and we have  a good group hangin' out. we talked about old and new bible stuff and ended with the great commission (matt. 28:18). go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit! I shoulda grabbed a big bucket and started soakin'. A slip-n-slide of salvation! woo-hoo!

then on to pingpong baseball. some participated while others played solo hide and seek. one casualty. a flattened pingpong ball. doh! i wish i coulda saved it.

today is the beat the bushes, call out the reserves day. i need ppl to come to the coffeehouse this (someday soon) sunday night, nov. 26, 6-9pm. come out, come out wherever you are!

i just though of a great game to play sunday night. hmmm... i need to print out some pics asap.

pray for seth's sis n dad, kristin's mom n herself, bunnies, kittens, and small furry things in general. remember

sunday school

hey kids, it's time for sunday school! today's lesson is prayer. should you do it? YES! but make it real. mt. 7:7 reads- don't just go on and on like blah, blah, blah..... instead say something meaningful and heartfelt. even if it's just a little bit of meaningful. Like, Lord I'm sad about my bad grades. Or please help my Mom get over her cold. Or, thanks for making me a happy, fun person in this great world you created. It's just awesome. Thank you!

We also talked about getting your foot run over by a lawnmower and watching it chunk out the lawn mower shoot and fly across the yard. eeewwwww!

Thanks for that not happening Lord.. Amen!

we played s.m.ball thurs. but i just watched. i am stuck on the level that you have to roll down a ramp and then launch onto another ramp. it is ridiculous! then we ate ice cream. and a twix.

lesson was the 10 commandments. where do you find them? old testament. exodus 20. remember? moses... stone tablets....

1. God says, have no god other than me.

2. Don't make any idols.

3. Don't use my name as a swear word.

4. Rest the seventh day with me.

5. Honor your mother and father.

6. Do not kill anyone.

7. Do not commit adultry.

8. Do not steal.

9. Do not lie.

10. Do not covet others stuff.

you can find them in Deut. also. they deserved repeating. pretty simple rules that make sense to remember. okay? tomr

missing a sheep

We met last night to whack on a little evergreen tree/bush, and think about website design. We chunked a whole pickup truck load of branches and tonight we will stuff them under Sam's bed so her room smells pine fresh! mmmmm...

Tomorrow, we will chop and hack some more. 'til there's nothin' but stump.

Time for a lesson.

Okay, what would you do? Parable (story with a lesson)...

"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent." Luke 15:4-7

That was the lesson from last night. Chelsea read and we had a little discussion. The parable reveals another of God's amazing hidden truths. If you wander away from the good group, he will go out look for you until he finds you. It should make you feel loved and important. Think about it,,,,
