Some of the ministries of Crafton UMC
The communities of Crafton and Ingram have joined forces to provide one community food bank to meet the needs of people. The first Sunday of every month, we bring in our food items to be added to the stores of the Food Bank. The Food Bank monthly averages 40-50 households served with food staples to help them through difficult times.
Our church has made a special commitment to a project in Peru that feeds children on the streets of Lima a hot, nutritious breakfast before they go to the church- operated Public school.
Bi-monthly, our church sends a team of people over to feed the homeless at the New Hope United Methodist Church. Normally, 80-120 people receive a hot meal, and the knowledge that someone cares about them.
Our church not only provides food items to the Meals on Wheels Program, but also many volunteers who drive, deliver, package and cook meals for those who cannot easily cook for themselves.
Every year our church collects toiletry items and small gifts for the residents of Bethlehem Haven, a shelter for battered wives and children.
As part of our community, we participate in the Crafton Churches' Blood Drive every year, which brings in over 50 pints of blood for the Blood Bank of Pittsburgh.
The UMY does a Work Camp project every year, building homes for Habitat for Humanity and the congregation helps in the fundraising to accomplish this project.
Scouting
We host Boy Scout, Girl Scout, Cub and Brownie troops, and our church holds the second oldest charter for Boy Scouts in Allegheny County, making ours one of the oldest troops in the country. For nearly a century, Scouts have called Crafton UMC their home.
