Musings from the Pastor’s desk:
As I write this it is mid-October. The foliage is bright and vibrant…oranges,
reds, and yellows…colors that actually seem to glow in the sunlight. Yet as I gaze out my window at this beauty that
surrounds me, I am also struck with the thought that all too quickly all this will be gone. Almost in the blink of an eye,
it seems, the colors of fall will fade and we will head into that more dormant season that lies ahead. How quickly the leaves
will fall from the trees…how quickly the view out my window will turn from bright colors to drab shades. Too add to
this, we will move the clocks back on November 1st, leaving us in darkness each day even before the dinner hour.
And, so even now, while I am surrounded by such amazing beauty, still I cannot help but to also feel a sense of sadness.
I
am also struck by how much our lives seem to follow the same patterns as the seasons. Sometimes our lives are warm and full
of flowers like in the summer months. At other times our lives are vibrant and colorful like in the autumn. And, sometimes
our lives are like winter – dark and cold and barren. But let us not forget that there is another season…a season
that promises new and better things even though we cannot see it now – a season full of hope and promise – for
after the winter comes the spring.
So
as we enter into November, as the landscape becomes more barren, as the days get so much shorter, let us all be reminded of
those wonderful words from the prophet Isaiah: The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived
in the land of deep darkness – on them light has shined. You see, it is
so easy for us to forget…to forget that this is not really an ending at all, but merely a season – a season that
will pass. At the end of this month we will enter into the season of Advent….a season that is all about hope. We must
remember that the birth of something new and wonderful awaits us. We must remember that our darkness is temporary…for,
we too have seen a great light, and it is upon us that this light has shined.
So
let us enter into this time with thanksgiving in our hearts for all that has been, and with a great hope for the promise of
an even better tomorrow. As we gather together with family and friends around tables so full of wonderful goodies on Thanksgiving
Day, and as we then enter into the Advent season let us remember our greatest blessing and our greatest hope: Jesus Christ!
Our God is a indeed great and awesome God – certainly reason to give thanks in all times and in all situations. And,
our God is also the reason that there is always the hope and promise of a new and better day.
Peace and Blessings!
Pastor Carol

they have some great ideas/plans for the year ahead.
