This is a story that needs to be told about this part of the repair. Like I said on the home page, I never had a beetle nor did I know about them and the maintance involved to keep them running. Just heard that they run forever and they are low maintenance. LOL I beg to differ now.
OK back to the pictures. I had the car and was driving it around for some time and decided to take it to the Hobby shop to do some general maintenance on it, and to give it a total look over for any problems underneeth. Now keep in mind that I thought that I looked over the car well before I bought it. I noticed that there was a loose bolt on the I beam. I reach up there and give a wiggle and I could turn one of the bolts by hand. Thinking to myself "Hey this isn't right" I looked around more and I put my finger right through the frame head and it turns out that the hunk of metal was more like swiss cheese (3 bolts instead of 4 holding strength). So knowing that this shouldn't be like this I take a ride to the Bug House and talk to them about a possible fix. They quote me $1500.00. WELL the car only cost $1100.00 to begin with. I laugh about it and drive away, and when I got home I went on the internet and ordered a new frame head that was cut off of a Beetle $110.00. (Well it looked new) It was sent bare metal so I took it to work and bead blasted the surface corrosioin off and primed and painted untill very corrosion resistant. My friend J came over and I borrowed another persons MIG weilder and J helped me measure, cut and install the new frame head and new floor boards and the only thing that I had to do to appreciate his help was to sew some uniform items for him. Good deal? I'D SAY SO!
