What's a Chronicle?

By definition, a chronicle is a record or narrative description of past events. This Advent devotional guide is based on C.S. Lewis' The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe from The Chronicles of Narnia. Unlike other Advent guides I have done, this set of devotions focuses more on the results of Christ's Birth, rather than the stories of Christmas themselves. The "chronicles" are the stories that are common to all of us: of sin, of love, of sacrifice, of forgiveness and hope, and should we dare to believe it, stories of God "on the move". Lewis' work serves as the springboard to these devotions, and one that, as you combine it with the daily Scriptures, are intended to launch you into deeper walks with God.

Each week's devotional guide includes an excerpt from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, an introduction to the week's theme, a set of Scripture readings, and a written prayer. I've also written questions for journaling. If you aren't much for journaling, you might like to try it. I've found it to be a great way to reflect and express what I am learning from God in a tangible way.

Oh yes; if you have never read The Chronicles of Narnia, please do. Read them for the mystery of myth and human understanding, for the joy of a good book on a winter's night, and to affirm once again that good can triumph over evil...
