Our first "child" was actually a skittish, grey tiger-striped cat we named Kliban. We enjoyed his idiosyncracies and quirks as cat lovers do. But after our daughter Elizabeth was born, we began to notice the similarities between Kliban and our new baby. Now, after living with two kids and two new kittens, the list of common characteristics continues to grow. I offer this list with a great deal of love for all of the children in our home, furless or furry, for they are all wonderful creations of God!

Why Children Are Like Cats

by Deb Vaughn
They are always underfoot when they are hungry.

They don't care whether it is day or night. When THEY are awake, YOU are awake!

They like to play in trashcans.

They like to play with the box or bag more than the toy that comes in it.

Shredding paper is a fascinating (and messy) pasttime. So is unrolling a roll of toilet paper.

They tend to urp at the worst possible moments, in the worst possible places.

They don't flush.

They hate bathtime if it isn't their idea.

ANY TIME is play time!

They love unconditionally, fervently and openly, so long as they are loved and cared for in return.

They want and know how to get your undivided attention.

They like comfy chairs and laps. Usually yours.

They have definite and fairly unmalleable food preferences!

They love to drop things for a "gravity check".

They don't like getting shots.

What one doesn't think of, the other one will.

If there's a fight, BOTH of them are at fault!

When they are quiet, they are either asleep or in trouble!

They have definite people preferences and aren't shy about letting you know it.

Sitters are OK, but Mom and Dad are the best.

When they are sick, all they really want is a lap and someone who loves them.

If you are reading and they want attention, they will do their best to annoy you.

Their lives are divided into eat, sleep and PLAY!

Once you have them in your lives, you can't imagine life without them!

All things bright and beautiful, all creatures, great and small,
All things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.
He gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty Who has made all things well!
