The plain, curved plaster walls with carved wooden beams curved upwards to frame it. I looked up and was struck immediately by its simple beauty. The Face of Jesus. The Rose of Sharon. This painted depiction of the face of Christ has been lovingly restored from the original. The church itself, in Dorlar, Germany, is where some of my ancestors worshipped, married, baptized their children and served their community. I can't describe the experience more than to say that I was awed and humbled. My spiritual and genealogical "roots" can be traced back to this place. One day, I will see these relatives for the first time in heaven. But I will see something much more amazing - the face of Christ! Like the unknown artist, today I can only guess at what the face of Christ will look like. Jesus has promised I will see Him, face to face.
