This story really starts at the end of last year, the economy was scary, rider counts were low, some of us were wondering if we would have enough participation to make this thing go again this year, time to recharge the batteries and give it another shot...  Fast forward to Equine Afaire Pamona 2009 we had our booth set up, Joy and I camped out at the Fairplex Sheridan and prepared to have fun recruiting prospective Desperados.  We had pretty good traffic and the people who came by to ask questions seemed genuinely interested several signed up for the February new rider workshop and club memberships.  Barb Green and Tom Wilson and a few other Desperados spent some time in the booth so Joy and I could go shopping and see some of the exhibitors.  I sure enjoyed watching Chris Cox start the Gypsy Vanner, and of course Craig Camerons Extreme Cowboy Race. By the end of the weekend my voice was shot and I couldn't talk for about a week(Joy likes that part).  We lucked out with pretty good weather for our workshop in February and had fifteen riders participate.  Look for some new faces at the up coming matches, these folks were impressive they all handled their horse well and made the introduction to gun fire a success for their horses and themselves.  Most of the new riders stuck around for practice and rode the patterns some shooting and some dry fireing and several of the current Desperados showed up in preperation of Sundays match.  On Sunday Jack Rader brought out the tractor and groomed the arena up to perfection, and I came along to help run the match and coach anyone who wanted help figureing out the best way to run the course of fire.  Joe put on a great match as usual and we had a pretty good turn out for a February match.  It was wonderful to see some old friends(the Millers and Walshs both brought the whole family, I think both Dads are in for some competition this year), Jonathan and Joyce Ames seem ready for a healthy year as well as several of the riders from previous days workshop.  There was some close competition and a great time was had by all.  As soon as I get the results I will post them.  Victor
