There are two parts to feeling sorry for myself or YOU feeling sorry for yourself! I know
I'm not the only one!
First of all, you better feel sorry for yourself because no one else will!
But how do you know when, as my Dad would say, "Enough is enough!"
When you're sick and feeling yucky, feel sorry for yourself. When you're overdrawn
and have absolutely not one red cent, feel sorry for yourself. When you lose a loved one or a pet, feel sorry for yourself.
When you lose a job or your health, feel sorry for yourself.
Feeling sorry for yourself when there is something to feel sorry for yourself about can
be very soothing and healing!
HOWEVER, when you're wanting to feel sorry for yourself, and you stop and think, and realize
there really is nothing in fact to feel sorry about, Ha Ha! That's the time to BREATHE and move away quickly from the
urges to feel sorry for yourself.
When I feel sorry for myself for no "good" reason, I begin to miss opportunities to be
creative and especially to write.
The author of "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff," made the observation, "your inbox
is always full," so don't sweat it! But catching up on some of the "stuff" in that inbox is cool! And when
I start feeling sorry for myself, I miss opportunities to do just that.
When I feel sorry for myself and there's really nothing there to warrant such an interesting
and time and energy consumming activity, I miss opportunities to love the people I love the most. I get stuck in being
angry with them for a whole host of things, most of which they don't even have a clue about. And I could say, "that's
the problem!" But the real problem is me feeling sorry for myself when there really is nothing to warrant this activity.
When there really is nothing to feel sorry for myself about, and I fight that urge,
then I can move into that realm of being thankful for my abundance. Abundance is one of those "things" that you can't
really measure. A penny can qualify as abundance as well as a million pennies. A telephone call from someone telling you
that they are thinking about you--now that's abundance. Maybe that's someone who just might feel sorry for you when
there is something to feel sorry for you about!
So the next time you're tempted to feel sorry for yourself, call THAT person and see what
they say!
Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Abundance!
