MONDAY MONDAY!
Do you remember that old song from when? Was it the sixties or seventies? Great
song!
Yes, it is Monday. I saw a wonderful movie yesterday. Freedom Writers.
It is available for rent at your favorite video store, and I posted a little summary of the movie in the THE MOVIES section
of this website. Check it out!
I decided this morning to discontinue my "job" of directing the church choir that sings for
the eleven o'clock service. There are many reasons for my decision, but what I want to share with you most is
the part of having to make that decision responsibly without blaming anyone or without hoping in the back of mind that the
parish council would come running and begging me to stay!!
I love music. I love to sing. I have a talent for bringing out the best in other
peoples' voices. Well, I think I do. I have LOTS of experience with Church music, in particular, and have had
the opportunity to sing some of the most wonderful, classical, and contemporary church music out there. I've
even composed some "church" music. What I have liked best about the "church" music I have composed is its simplicity,
and the ease with which the choir can sing the music and the ease with which the congregation can join in. And the accompaniament
to these simple songs always has a flair which makes the song sound very interesting, etherial, and a little less
simple than it actually is, a little orchestral even.
I hope someday to have another opportunity to direct a church choir.
I'm working at keeping my decision simple--like the music I compose--without getting into
the old thing of people just not knowing what they're losing. It is good for me to stay in a humble spot.
They will do just fine without me and they might even find someone BETTER than me to take my place! Wow!
Isn't that an amazing possibility?
I hope this blog inspires you to look at similar situations in your life and to find comfort
and peace in not having to be the greatest, the best, and that person that everyone runs after and dies for!!
After all, you nor I are ice cream of any flavor!

This is one of my favorite piano pieces from the many concerts I attended as a little
kid right there in my own living room--listening to Mom play.
See blog for March 10.
