WEDNESDAY, MAY 30
I can't believe that Monday slipped right by me and with it went my reminder to post something
new on the blog.
Last Friday was my mother's birthday. She would have been 92. I don't know what
you all believe about those folks who have passed on, but Mom made her presence known Friday. It was cool! Yea,
I know, some of you think I'm a little nuts, but that is okay!
I thought a lot about a conference being held last weekend up in the Redwoods, north of San
Francisco. It was a gathering of men, sponsored by the Redwood Men's center. There is a link to their website
on the link page of this website.
I had the privilege of attending the conference/retreat several times in the past, and the experiences
were always just what I needed and very life transforming. So if any of you of the male species are interested
in a transformational experience, set aside Memorial Day weekend for 2008, and contact them now and get on the mailing list.
You can also ask me about my experiences at the conference, and I will be most happy to share, so much so, you might not be
able to get me to stop talking!!
I rarely visit Roberta's grave, my first wife, but I did last week, together with
my son, David. I don't think of her soul or presence being there, but I still visit her grave occasionally. It's
certainly a small memorial for all that she stood for and lived for. The marker is kind of unique, designed by my son,
David, with some input from myself. It was very special, the two of us visiting the grave together.
When I think of Memorial Day, I rarely think about the "dead." For me, Memorial Day is
the day of the Indianopolis 500, which I listened to faithfully on the radio every year as a kid. We all rooted for Billy
Vukovich from Fresno, who won the race two years in a row. He lost his life (speaking of dead people!) on his third
attempt to win. I remember that day well. We were all just stunned. There was no television coverage at
that time, so we sat next to the radio and just listened in absolute silence as they talked about the crash and his being
killed. It seems to me that he had a son about my age. I remember wondering what it must be like for him
losing his Dad to this exciting event which made his Dad very famous, but also killed him.
So, Memorial Day is about remembering the dead after all! Amazing how my mind works!
(Or doesn't!)
HAVE A LIFE-FILLED WEEK. I AM GOING TO. YOU BET!
