CELEBRATING INDEPENDENCE
Have you heard or seen enough fireworks yet? How about the heat spell? Here in the
Inland Empire, it is just plain HOT!
I brought a cold back from the Big Apple which stuck in my throat and chest like a big
apple, but I think I am finally on the other side.
Independence is such an interesting experience. There are so many "facets" to independence.
I don't like words like "facets," but am at a loss for another!
It is so very important that I work consciensciously and consciously to say YES to what
I want to say YES to and NO to what I want to say NO to. And if I say YES to something I really want
to say NO to, then it is helpful to at least take responsibility for the results, especially the anxiety and stress
I will experience.
No matter how short we fall in this country in our attempts to demonstrate democracy to the
world (the commuting of Mr. Libby's sentence is NOT a good example of responsible democracy), we can all FREELY celebrate
independence by practicing saying YES and NO in our day to day lives.
As promised, here is a poem written in Central Park. Hope you enjoy it. I will
post more.
BENCHED
I’ve been benched
By my own intense desire
For a handful of creative moments
To sketch a poem or two.
"Go," she said.
"I will see you tonight at dinner."
Alone I sit
Amidst the trees
Surrounding the Great Lawn.
Dogs abound like peace-keeping soldiers.
And people,
jogging
walking
talking
rushing,
All burrowing
Through a myriad
Of crisscrossing
Intersecting
Asphalt pathways,
That weave their way
Like embroidery stitches
Through a tapestry of green
Called Central Park.

This is one of my favorite piano pieces from the many concerts I attended as a little
kid right there in my own living room--listening to Mom play.
See blog for March 10.

My Birthday buddy, Glenn, getting into WILDFIRE!

Maynard on his 92nd birthday, contemplating kicking my butt in cribbage!
