HAPPY NEW YEAR! I have been trying to post a new blog now for three days. Each time, something
"weird" happened, something weird that only happens on a computer. It probably makes perfectly good sense to the computer
and to anyone who knows more about computers than I do, but to me, it’s like some kind of voo doo! It’s like the "gods" are
making sure that my post does not make it out there!! And it was all GOOD STUFF! It wasn’t even a tad controversial!!
So here goes again! First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to DAVID. I cannot believe he is 35. It would make
more sense to me if he were 25! I remember well his BIRTH day. It was in the days that Dads were first allowed into the delivery
room. Since it was a holiday, they had actually ran out of green SCRUBS. So the Doctor grabbed the last available SCRUBS and
told me to hold onto them and under no circumstances to let anyone else have them!! I heard later that some poor person died
that night because a surgeon could not find any scrubs! No, I’m just kidding!
Anyhow, the highlight of his birth was his head popping out. The La Maze instructor had warned
us that babies are not particularly cute when they pop out. So I was prepared, but not for what I saw. His face was totally
covered with hair. But I took a deep breath and told myself that I would love him anyway. After all, he was my son! The La
Maze instructor had also told us, which I had forgotten, that babies come out face down! So I was so delighted when the doctor
rotated David and miraculously, all the hair from his face disappeared! And he was very cute and very handsome! And he still
is today!
I also want to wish Toby Byers HAPPY BIRTHDAY. His 21st! He is the entrepreneur in
the family and for all I know, he is a millionaire by now. He owns his own clothing line! I’ll post his website as soon as
I get it.
I also want to wish HAPPY BIRTHDAY to GEORGE CARDONA, and MADISON and REMINGTON KEAST. I’m not
a "good" uncle or cousin when it comes to keeping up with birthdays. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all you December Babies!
Having to compete for Birthday time with some big name like Jesus could be a tad diminishing and
sometimes December Birthday people get lost in the shuffle of Christmas presents. So, I hope all of you received your
DUE when it comes to wishes and presents! Remember Jesus loves you too! If you wish him a Happy Birthday, he'll
surely return your wish! He'll say, "Hey, pick up that cross and come follow me!" Let's hope not or maybe he just
has a sense of humor!
So it is now 2008. The only resolution I am making is I AM GOING TO LIVE MY LIFE in 2008.
So what did you do on New Year’s Eve? We had a couple of Disneyland passes hanging around the
house that expired on 12-31, so off to Anaheim we went. It was a good warmup for spending New Year’s Eve in Times Square some
day! IT WAS GREAT. We finally made it home at 4 am and have been sleeping since!
It’s back to "work" tomorrow and part of Friday. I hope you love your work as much as I love mine.
Remember that LITTLE CHRISTMAS is this coming Sunday. It is the day Christian Churches celebrate the arrival of the WISE MEN.
So remember to be WISE this Sunday and bring something precious and something aromatic into the lives of your loved ones and
for that matter into the lives of all the people you might "run across" that day.
I was disturbed by the recent assassination in Pakistan. It reminds me that there are less famous
folks being assassinated every day both here and abroad. Our young men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan, for example. And
then all the folks "over there" we consider "enemy." They are the enemy to us and we are the enemy to them! How crazy!
Then there are plenty of assassinations that go on every day in this country’s neighborhoods.
I work with a group of young men on Thursday afternoons who have no hope of living to a ripe old age. They look at the possibility
of being shot as just a reality that they try to live with every day and every time they walk out of their houses.
I do believe in the reality of critical mass even applied to our every day social interactions.
And so each of us can work very hard to stop assassinating our loved ones and friends and neighbors and fellow human beings
however we might do that assassination "thing" in our own lives. Every act of kindness has at least the same effect as the
movement of a butterfly’s wings, and I’m told the movement of a butterfly’s wings effects the weather on the other side of
the world!
We are POWERFUL PEOPLE. We just don’t know it or if we do, we keep forgetting to use our POWER
to bring peace to our homes, to our neighborhood, to our minds, to our conversations, to our driving, to our faces, to the
feeling in our skin, to our own determination to make this a better world for EVERYONE, not just the folks who look like us.
PS: The film, PS I LOVE YOU is a great film. SEE IT!
