Well, when you live in the NOW, it's only been another point in the NOW that I posted the last
blog, not the almost two months that it is now!!
HEY, just by the way. CHECK OUT the
THE MOVIES page. I've posted a couple of "new" movies.
We have a new "place" in town to support writers in their WRITING. I will place the link
here and on the link page.
http://writersgallery.org. Kind of neat that such a "place" is right here in what was once little ol Yucaipa. So if you are a writer or
have a desire or dream to be a writer and you live anywhere relatively close to Yucaipa, check out the Writer's Gallery.
I am definitely not a Republican, but I must say that whatever lack of experience the Repub
VP nominee has in politics, we know that she has plenty of experience being a parent and is one of us when it comes
to facing all the events that we sometimes dread, like our teens becoming pregnant or having a child with special needs.
With all the news about hurricanes this week, I am vividly remembering that Dianna and
I got "kicked out" of a gorgeous room on the second floor of an old mansion in Key West two or three years back. I cannot
remember the name of the hurricane that so cruely ended our dream vacation, but it was a man's name!! Something
like SOB Fred! Nature is sometimes or perhaps always very powerful, very powerful indeed.
I recently read one of those books that I was not able to put down till I was finished.
Fortunately, it was not too terribly long. The title is "Way of the Peaceful Warrior," by Dan Millman. It was
also made into a movie which I hear is pretty good, but I have not seen myself yet. The book was a FINE birthday gift
from my son, David. Thanks, David.
And speaking of birthdays, I celebrated my 63rd on August 21. In honor of the day,
I walked 6.3 miles. I started out trying to walk 63 miles, but when I realized how long it would take me, I decided
to stop at 6.3 which only took me a little over 90 minutes! Hey, at my age (or is it our age?), you gotta brag whenever
you can to make up for all the times you leave your car keys dangling in the trunk, or you fall over, just trying to get out
of bed, or you can't see NOTHING when you walk into the movie theatre after the film has started. You're also trying
to balance a giant bag of popcorn and two sodas while also trying to find the person you came to the movie with.
I have met more people that way. It's very interesting when I lean over and kiss the person and say, "here's your
popcorn, sweetie." The guys are sometimes a little insensed, but most folks are glad to eat the popcorn and take
one of the sodas. Of course, Dianna is watching this whole ordeal and always stands up and shouts, "Hey, Vern,
you blind old man, I'm up here." It's exciting to go to the movies when you're kind of old and kind of half blind!
We had a party for both myself and Ian who turned 24 on August 22. It was a fun evening
of getting together with OLD friends. None of us could hear each other and so we were laughing at what
we thought we were saying and no one seemed to get insulted, so it was all good!!
Labor day is over, so I guess it is time to just kick back and enjoy the rest of the year.
