In a nutshell: Two stroke army! The USGPRU crew was out in force and this was Team Möbius' first foray into racing
with the 'GPRU boys. What a treat it was!
The Classic course at LVMS was seen for the first time this weekend, at least riding it in the CCW direction! The
'reverse' layout was interesting. Not bad, but definately not the safest way to do things. Hopefully they will
reverse it back to the 'correct' orientation the next time we come out.
So this weekend was the first Twin-Sprint event of the year. Vegas is always a good place for this, if for no other
reason, because its far enough away that it makes it worth the drive, and, well, its VEGAS!
Friday practice went well and we acquainted ourselves with the revised layout. The bike was working nicely and
things were going as planned. It was really great to see all the two strokes out and about thanks to the inclusion of
the USGPRU round. There were lots of 125's and the 250 contingency was ok too.
Saturday's Lightweight GP race went as planned. Although we didnt end up taking the overall win, we did take 1st
in the Amateur class, and thats what counts. As well, we had some really nice, and frankly unexpected, surprise in the
form of the pole position for the GPRU 250GP race. The Team Mobius TZ250 laid down the fast lap in qualifying to take
the pole by nearly a second over a grid packed with great riders! We have to say, it was kinda fun to have that yellow
plate out front. As another nice treat, one of the GPRU folks hooked up some bonafied umbrella girls from the local
Hooters. One step closer to being a real GP star, right?
Sunday went pretty good. We won the second LWGP race from the undersized grid. Undersized, because with all
the 250's out that weekend it was a shame there weren't more of them entered in the race. Maybe all those guys were
saving their game for the big 250 race?
So, the big kahuna, the first GPRU event for Möbius Racing and we're on pole! Off the start, we were third into
the first turn, following two great and talented riders. Patience not being a strong suit (going to have to work on
that one), we dove into second position after a lap. Another lap later, its a late braking move off the long, fast back
straight and the TZ is out in front. Too bad it didn't even last for a whole lap. :(
Coming into T1 and feeling pretty good, we tossed the bike in and the front plowed. It just pushed and pushed until
there was no track left and off into the desert we went. Bummer. Worse was that we were headed right back toward
the track....only we were going to go right across it!! Thankfully, with arms flailing in the air to signal to the other
riders, we made it across the track unscathed, slowed the bike down, got it turned around and back on track in 4th place.
By that time, however, the two front runners were gone and we battled back to take 3rd place at the checkered flag.
Bummer. Like was mentioned earlier, we're going to have to work on that patience thing! Hey, at least the bike
wasn't tossed down the road, right??
