In a nutshell: hot. Well, what else do you expect out at Willow in August?!? Yes it was hot, but actually,
it really wasnt too bad. The temperature hovered right around 100° for the better part of the weekend and, all things
considered, it could have been worse.
Since we had such a good time with the WSMC regulars up in Portland, it was decided to head out to Willow and join the
boys for their club weekend. Willow is a great track and has been having a bit of a GP resurgence lately with
growing grids and a number of local guys that can push the pace. Additionally, since the Roadracing World 250/50 was
on the Möbius schedule, we figured it would make for good practice for the upcoming event.
Saturday morning practice was spent trying to sort out the jetting. It couldnt have been more different that Portland,
so it really took a couple sessions to get everything carbureting nicely. Once that was done, the afternoon was spent
getting back up to speed. Willows lack of a transponder system and the inoperation of the laptime left Vince without
any feedback on laptimes. Something that isn't overly helpful!
Sunday came with more of the same weather. Fortunately we did not get to experience Willow's famous wind - not
a bad thing! After an easy morning warmup, the bikes took to the grid. A couple of WSMCs local fast guys were
unable to make the grid which meant that Vince quickly found himself up in the front of the pack as the race got underway.
Mike Lytle pulled his typical disappearing act on the start and Pete Ellis went to work setting the pace. As much as
Vince wanted to and tried to stay with Ellis, the more experienced rider proved to difficult. At the end of 6 laps it
was Ellis from Vince, with our rider more than pleased to see the podium in his first attempt at racing with WSMC!
