New 18' Cedar Strip
Canoe
This design is an efficient wilderness canoe that has proven
exceptionally seaworthy, even in heavy seas around the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the North Sea. Its
keeless shallow-arch hull with moderate rocker combines with a long waterline and fine entry to make it a fast responsive
boat. The bow and stern profile are reminiscent of the Long Nose Ojibwa Rice Harvesting canoe.
The sides have a moderate tumblehome for lateral strength and to allow
outwales wide enough to turn aside waves and spray.
$3,200.

Pictured is the second 18' canoe that I have built.
I often take it's twin (my first built) fishing and it is just light enough for me to move from car top to water alone. All
components, ash seats, cherry decks, brass stem bands, ash inwale and outwales, ash yoke and the cherry and poplar paddles
were handcrafted by me. Seats have bootlace webbing which is as attractive as it is strong. Hull is clear epoxy fiber-glassed
for strength and durability both inside and out. Approximate weight is 65 lbs.
