Not to be Confused With "Another Bad Creation"

I had a great time with Mr. Wrong Turn Journal at a concert with '80's pop legends ABC last week. The band kept songs from their newer albums to a minimum, recreated the horn and violin on their synthesizers effectively, and lead singer Martin Fry acted like the New York audience was the best he'd ever seen--all just what we wanted. It reminds me of the ABC film--yes, they made a film (about an hour long)--Mantrap and, damn, I wish I kept it.

As I remember it, the film opens with a despondent ABC band. Unable to find a lead singer, the band is about to conclude their auditions when, of course, Martin Fry walks in and nails All of My Heart (or some other ABC standard). "You're going to be famous," the manager says. And famous they become, according to a montage of newspaper clippings that follows.

But the sensation attracts the attention of Eastern European spies, headed by the femme fatale of the Poison Arrow video. It seems that the ABC European Tour makes a great cover for some nefarious activity, so the spies infiltrate the band by kidnapping and replacing Martin Fry with an exact double. I don't want to spoil it for you, but by the end of the movie Mr. Fry battles his doppleganger and rushes to a concert hall just in time to give a killer performance.

I think we need to buy this film. Who's with me?
