Outside the Dome Goes to City Hall

Having just voted, I'm pleased to present the first Outside the Dome Voter Guide! (Click on the picture for a larger ballot)

Mayor
Once again, for some reason, the Democratic and Republican parties appear first and second on the voting line. The ballot shows eight other political parties but, in the voting booth, they're shunted to a crowded right. Perhaps one day we'll get a Board of Elections not influenced by two political parties. Until then, look to that crowded section and you'll find the Rent Is Too Damn High party. Anyone who spends the time and effort to get a Rent Is Too Damn High party on the ballot deserves our vote.

Vote Jimmy McMillan for Mayor
------------------------------------------------------------------

Public Advocate
The reality of Democratic/Republican hegemony, of course, is that when one of the two parties fails to field a candidate it's a shoo-in for the other. OTD says, fight the power! Vote for the Rebuild party. If that's who I really think it is.

Vote Bernard Goetz for Public Advocate
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Comptroller
Same dealio here. OTD endorses Libertarian Ron Moore who has the juevos to put a bad-ass picture of himself on his website

Vote Ron Moore for Comptroller
--------------------------------------------------------------------

District Attorney
This is a joke. Even Iraq gets to choose between two District Attorneys.

No vote for District Attorney
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Borough President
We don't know much about Marty Markowitz except that he cuts the line at Bagel Boy when he's here. It's time we tossed these career line-cutting politicians.

Vote Theodore Alatsas for Borough President

Sh*t Be Broken

Yesterday Outside the Dome received an absentee ballot application from the New York Republican State Committee. While OTD appreciates the voter participation effort you *know* the only reason NYGOP sent me a ballot is because I'm registered Republican. This sh*t needs to be fixed. If ballots go out, it needs to be from a New York Fuckin' Independent Ballot Board, not a political party. Republican and Democratic parties be controlling elections way too hard.

And check this glossy mailer out: "Vote Yes on Proposition 2." You could tell me this Transportation Act includes a Pr0n tax and I'd still vote for it under the promise we'd get a Second Avenue subway but this mailer needs some serious disclosure. It took me ten minutes to find the "Paid for by Vote Yes For Transportation, Inc.," and that doesn't tell me anything. How about telling me who really paid for the mailer? Better yet, why aren't we just mailing the full text of the Act?
