"There is a new band in the neighborhood intent on resurrecting the blues.
From old nuggets such as “Good Morning Little School Girl” and “44 Blues” to their Zappaesk rendition
of “La Grange meets Willie the Pimp” Blue Mozart twists and turns the blues into new shapes. The band formed one
year ago is starting to make a mark in clubs formally playing metal, folk rock and traditional blues.
Mozart Rottweiler the bands leader says “I was trying to find a
way of playing classic blues that would transcend the genera, and with this bunch of musicians I think I have found the right
formula. Using musicians who are veterans of different areas of music brings a new color to the blues. I like to think of
it as the “Black and Blues”. Sometimes I feel more like a ring master then the leader.“
The three guitarists Artie (Artful Dodger) Scocozza, John (the Dragon)
Drake and Mozart Rottweiler can be found playing at the Katonah bar and grill, Victors, Lazy boy Lounge, and at the Heights
Bistro jams. Sometimes two bars in a night. “anything to keep up our edge, this is were we try out new material”
says John and Artie”
Artie has been a metal and hard rock guitarist for five years in Tungstan12,
and Aloid. Tungstin12 produced a cd that will be released on “Bones don’t float Records” within the next
few months. Artie gives the group that hard speedy edge as only a crunchy metal guitarist can.
John began playing guitar as a teenager and has been playing electric
and acoustic music for about 20 years with a few dormant periods in between. The past two years, however, have been
a time of rediscovery and constant playing, influenced by such diverse
elements as Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa, Grateful Dead, Howlin’ Wolf, and Django Reinhardt.
Mozart has played in “Ya Muddas Night Mare” a 50’s
do wop group, Mirkwood a folk rock band and his own “Mozart Rottweiler with Sinister Undertones” a gothic Rhythm
and blues band that produced 3 cds. “I’ve played in Topless bars, cat houses and dives you wouldn’t sit
down in without a can of Lysol” says Mozart. Mozart says “I try to keep things fluid, if you hear the song done
the same way twice, I am not doing my job. All the jamming with different people helps. None of us are classically trained
but we are definitely housebroken”

Blue Mozart is a blues band with a difference. Barrelhouse blues
was the heavy metal experience of its time. It was relegated to the backwoods and cat houses of the 40s and 50s. It was here
that Elvis Priestly and Jerry Lee Lewis discovered it and brought it into the mainstream of popular music. In the 1960s and
70s it was rediscovered. Now in 2008 “Blue Mozart” gives it new life.
Blue Mozart plays Muddy Water, Howling Wolf, Elmore James, Robert
Johnson, and others with the energy it deserves. This isn’t your fathers blues, this is your grandfathers blues (if
granddad had a few hundred watts of power and an electric guitar) We also cover the Stones, Cream, ZZ top’s versions
of these classics. |
