Welcome Statue of Liberty

Here you'll learn all about my third great-grandfather George Johann Burkel. A man from Germany who came to America, and adopted this Country as his own. With great honor he volunteered for the Civil War, and was able to have the distinct honor of being the man who fired the last gun shot. My hopes in creating this website, are that there is more info on George out there that could help tell his story.

My name is William D. Wright, and I created this page to honor my third great-grandfather George J. Burkel. With help from Chip Barkel, who is also a descendant of George, my sister Jean Marie Robacker, and my great aunt Mildred (Millie) Lutz Holsomback. A simple family tree became a story.
