Directions to Sting Bowl Started at the end of 1994, this is an annual event to get everyone
together for two-hand touch football during the Christmas/New Years' holidays. And who could forget Sting Rule #3 (Bender has tested it many times) - In Sting Bowl, pick speed over size. Sting Bowl XV (2008/09) - January 10, 2009. Segaar's Sissies over Waite's Whiners in the championship. Bobby and JR captained the two losing teams
as we played tournament format with four teams of five. The weather was OK and the turnout was great. Gary Rule had a record afternoon and inspired old guys everywhere with a couple of Pick-6's and a couple of TD
receptions on the afternoon. We're thinking of trading him because, in the words of Buddy Ryan, "All he does is catch touchdowns!"

Sting Bowl XIV (2007/08) - JR's Juveniles 3, Chad's Choirgirls 2. We had a good
crowd and weather was decent in a pretty even game. No one had a breakout performance, so picking an MVP was difficult. Marc Dixon was eventually picked for organizing and bringing beer for
14 straight years - sounds like a pity-MVP to me!
More photos from Sting Bowl XIV Sting Bowl XIII (2006/07) - Segaar's Skanks over Glunt's Gimps. Nobody can
remember the score, only that the Skanks thrashed the Gimps. While Chris Segaar was picking young, fast guys, Mike Glunt was busy gathering a team that only had two players who hadn't had
ACL surgery. On another note - Dixon on the winning team two years in a row??? How can that be possible?Photos and commentary from Sting Bowl XIII
Sting Bowl XII (2005/06) - Ed's Eco-Terrorists 6, Fidler's Fokkers 5. Ed went out
on a limb and picked one of the oldest Sting Bowl teams on record. It paid off as we beat Bender's Bums in the 1st match and went on to defeat Fidler's Fokkers in the championship.
Front - (L to R) Michael Glunt (MVP), Clint Sharp
Back - Marc Dixon, Ed Grosso, Jerry Bramble. More Sting Bowl XII photos and info
Sting Bowl XI (2004/05) - Kabbie's Scabbies 7, Fidler's Fokkers 6. They said it
couldn't be done. In the era of free agency, no team could win back-to-back Sting Bowls, but Kabler made it happen! Was it skill? Hard work? Determination? Luck? Yeah, mostly luck.
Photos and more commentary... Sting Bowl X (2003/04) - Kabbie's Scabbies 6, Bender's Bums 3
. This was the second year of the tournament format. We had 18 people show up. The weather was excellent - sunny and mid 70's. Chris Fidler was MVP. Here's a picture of the champions, Kabbie's Scabbies.

Chris Fidler (MVP), Bob Cummings, Jim Thomas and John Kabler. More Sting Bowl X photos and info.
Sting Bowl IX (2002/03) - Bender's Bums 4, Kabbie's Scabbies 3. This was the first
year we tried the tournament format. We had 24 people show up, so we made 4 teams of 6. I thought it worked out very well (even though my team came in last). The weather was good - sunny
and mid 40's. Dave Guarnieri was MVP. Here's a picture of the champions, Bender's Bums.
 (L to R)
Mike Pantle, Dave Guarnieri (MVP), Greg Hall, Mike Bender, Joerg Paule, Rahmel Logan
More Sting Bowl IX photosSting Bowl VIII (2001/02) - Kabbie's Scabbies 5, Bender's Bums 3. I'd have to
rate this as one of the better match-ups in Sting Bowl history. We had great attendance, playing 9 v 9. Bender's Bums jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Kabbie's Scabbies fought their way back.
Kent Horner and Clay Mullican started the come-back with a great defensive pass tip and INT. Then Josh Lenzini took over at QB and started to slice and dice Bender's defense. The weather was
sunny and cold (mid 30's). Josh was the MVP.
Front Row (L to R) - John Kabler Middle Row -

redeems himself and picks a winning team! Bender picked the one good quarterback (Ed) and Kent and Sean went for size over speed (ignoring Sting Rule #3). Mike Bender was the MVP. Front Row (L to R) - Nick Sharp, Evan Dixon, John Kabler
Middle Row - Gary Rule, Frank Craven, Gary Wade, Marc Dixon, Kent Horner, Rich Terrell, Patrick Mompoint, ??? Back Row -

.Year of the ice storm... frozen tundra was at the other end of the field. The biggest blowout in Sting Bowl history! Why do we keep letting Bender pick teams? The highlight of this game was Kabler's diving
attempt to catch a pass in the frozen tundra. He went about 20 yards on his chest across the frozen ground, screaming the entire way! I think Ed Grosso was the MVP this year - don't know why he's
not in the picture though.
Front Row (L to R) - John Kabler, Joerg Paule, Marc Dixon, Jim Smith, Gary Rule Back Row -
Mike Musselwhite, Mike Bender, Dave Hauck, Todd Dixon, Alok Upadhyaya, Ben Armstrong Sting Bowl V (1998/99) - Smitty's Schoolgirls 6, Todd's Trashtalkers 4.
It rained, it sleeted, it snowed... I caught a long pass down the middle on the first play of the game and
Bender gave me one of his patented two-hand, "don't catch that ball again", tags to send me sliding about ten yards through the mud. It was a fun, but cold, afternoon! Jim Smith was the MVP.
 Front Row (L to R) -
Marc Dixon, Todd Dixon, Dave Hauck, Rich Terrell, Frank Craven Back Row -
Sam Alkhadra, Mike Gardner, Alok Upadhyaya, Ben Armstrong, Mike Bender, friend of Todd's Sting Bowl IV (1997/98) - Dave's Dominatrixes 7, Todd's Turkeys 2.
Good weather, good crowd...One good team, one bad team. Dave Hauck was MVP.
Front Row (L to R) - Jeff Pervier, Marc Dixon (with Evan), Jim Baranowski, John Kabler, friend of Todd's
Back Row - Dan Hanley, Dave Hauck, Al Timmons, Mike Gardner, Paul Charles, Gary Rule, Jim Smith, Todd Dixon
Sting Bowl III (1996/97) - Kabbie's Scabbies 2, Al's Assholes - 1. A defensive
struggle. Probably because both offenses sucked so bad! John Kabler was the MVP. Sting Bowl II (1995/96) - Clay's Crushers 4, Kabbie's Scabbies 2.
I'm drawing a blank here...Clay Mullican was the MVP. Sting Bowl I (1994/95) - Norm's Numbnuts 6, Bender's Bums - 5.
The first was the best! An epic battle of young vs. old! And guess what! The old guys won on a brilliant pass
defense by Mike Gardner as he climbed Bender's back to deny him the ball! Some whiners say "interference". I say "jump ball". Of course I'm biased, I was on the winning team! Mike Gardner was the MVP. |
