This regatta is governed by:
1.1 The rules as defined in the 2009 ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing
1.2 The Sunfish Class Rules
1.3 The Organizing Authority is: Portsmouth Boat Club
2. Eligibility and Entry
2.1 All Sunfish, Club 420, Laser, Force 5, Thistle, Windsurfer, and any other dinghy
sailboat competitors may enter by completing the online registration, located at http://www.hrsunfishrace.com.
2.2 All entrants must fill out an On line Entry Form or call Jonathan Romero at (757)
285-6017 to register by phone. There will be a $30.00 registration fee.
2.3 Registration on the morning of the regatta,
September 22, 2012 between 0800 and 0830 at the Willoughby Boat Ramp, in Norfolk Va.
2.4 Participants are reminded that per the class rules, 2 people may sail a boat together
in the regatta, so fathers, bring your son or daughter out to race.
3.1 It is the competitor’s decision to enter the regatta and to start or continue
The competitors are ultimately responsible for the risks. The Organizing Authority will not accept any liability
for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. The
competitors will accept full responsibility for all his/her actions during any activity related to the event. This includes
on-shore activities before, during and after the regatta.
0800-0930 Registration & Light Breakfast at Old Dominion Univ. Sailing Center.
Light Breakfast provided by Yorgo’s Bageldashery.
0945 Skipper’s Meeting
1030 First Warning Signal, race start.
1500 Time Limit for all boats to clear the racecourse
1600 Food, drinks, raffle, and awards at the ODU sailing center.
5. Sailing Instructions
5.1 Sailing Instructions (SI) will be available at registration. An opportunity exists
to discuss any questions participants have about the SI at the skipper’s meeting.
6.1 These will be defined in the Sailing Instructions. It is likely they will be:
A water start from the Willoughby Boat Ramp Beach Area, down the Elizabeth River, to a finish
off of the ODU Sailing Center pier.
A map of the course is located at http://www.hrsunfishrace.com, and will be included in the SI.
7.1 One-design scoring will be used for all Sunfish, and any other established fleets,
with all other boats, scoring will be per US Sailings Portsmouth Yard Stick 2009.
7.2 If 4 or more boats of the same type race, the fleet maybe further subdivided.
8.1 Radio Communications: All boats will be required to, at all times, carry a whistle to
contact the safety boats.
8.1a. Whistles will be available for purchase at registration, but we encourage you
to please bring your own.
8.2 A US Coast Guard or International equivalent personal flotation device must be worn at all times when racing.
Trophies will be awarded to:
9.1 Sunfish Fleet will be subdivided into 3 classes, Racing, Recreation, & Novice,
with 4 trophies awarded in each class.
9.2 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in each class.
10. DISCLAMER OF LIABILITY:
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing
authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior
to, during, or after the regatta. This is really important so we listed it twice.
