Story of the twins: This January I found out that NuvaRing does NOT work. At 8 weeks, I had an ultrasound at my first
doctor's, and the baby looked healthy but they only saw one. The next couple of appointments my blood pressure was mysteriously
elevated, so for my 18 week u/s they sent me to a high-risk specialist. He set the u/s on my belly and immediately said "Oh
there's two heartbeats." I thought he was kidding, so I said "yeah you're funny" and Dr S. said "here I'll get them on the
same screen." So it turned out there were two babies... Twin B immediately flashed the camera and Dr S said "whoa, he's a
boy!" When we tried to get a look at Twin A, it flipped its butt to the camera, all the while Twin B was trying to get back
onscreen (apparently he is a spotlight-hog). So the elevated blood pressure was explained (it's common for twins) and I had
to switch doctors and stay with the high-risk specialist. At 18 weeks we knew Baby B was a boy. At 24 weeks we saw a perinatologist
and she confirmed that Baby A was also a boy. They were in separate sacs, but the amniotic membrane was very thin which made
the peri believe they were identical, but she couldn't get a good look at the placenta because Baby B was in the way.

Wow that's a huge belly! Just think, it got 4 weeks bigger! I have a picture of my belly at 33 weeks but I look AWFUL
(even more awful than in the above photo) so I won't subject you to it. You're welcome.

Birth Story
Short version: the twins were born Tuesday 9/7/04 by cesarean at 34w3d. Christian Michael at 6:30pm, 5lb even and 19
inches. Dominic Edward at 6:31, 5lb1oz and 19 inches.
Long version: I went in to my weekly doctors appointment on
Tuesday where we learned I had full preeclampsia (protein in urine, bp was 155/95, pitting edema was developing). So I was
sent straight over to the hospital for immediate c-section. I was pretty bloody scared, but it was quick & really not
that bad. I shook like a leaf for a few hours afterward from the spinal & morphine. They sent the placenta off to pathology
to determine if the boys are monozygotic (identical) - there was only one placenta so they are.
My blood pressure
was through the roof (it was 195/115 when I got out of surgery) so I was on a magnesium sulfate iv for the first 24 hours
to prevent seizure. I was on Labetalol to control my blood pressure for 6 weeks, it finally went down. The pitting edema took
about 2 weeks to totally dissipate, that was more uncomfortable for me than the incision! I took percocet in the hospital
once the spinal/morphine wore off, and once I got home I took ibuprofin for about a week. I felt tired but fine after that,
and at 4 weeks postpartum I was even jumping on a trampoline with my 2 year old nephew.
