In 2008, I joined Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater as its Director of Marketing, with responsibilitity for the development and execution of a comprehensive strategy for the wide-reaching Ailey organization.  In addition to attracting tens of thousands of ticket buyers to Ailey's self-produced seasons at New York's City Center and Brooklyn Academy of Music, Atlanta's Fox Theater and Miami's Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, I oversee the marketing for the extensive U.S. and international tours of both its main and Ailey II companies, as well as marketing initiatives for The Ailey School, The Ailey Extension, AileyCamps and Ailey's Arts In Education programs.

Current and past clients include:

The New York Public Library:  For seven years, from 2002 to 2008, I wrote and produced the video tributes for the honorees at the NYPL's annual "Library Lions" gala.  Over the years, I have also created other video material for the Library, including tributes to two major donors: the late Brooke Astor (for her memorial held at the Library in September 2007) and Robert Wilson (in 2005, on the occasion of an extraordinary gift).  And I produced a video celebration of Library President & CEO Paul LeClerc's 10th anniversary in 2005.

The New 42nd Street: Throughout most of 2007, I consulted on a variety of projects including the marketing and PR for their New Victory Theater and Duke on 42nd Street venues.  I also worked on a documentary about the New Victory's education programs and conceived, scripted and produced the New 42's annual gala, "The New 42 Follies."

New York City Ballet: In spring 2007, I consulted on a few marketing-related projects, including the creation of a new direct mail campaign for The Nutcracker.

Lincoln Center Theater: I produced LCT's 2007 gala, a one-night-only performance of Wendy Wasserstein's The Sisters Rosensweig.  I also produced a large-scale memorial for Wasserstein at Lincoln Center in 2006.  In 2005, I produced a commemorative video, CD and book for the Theater's 20th anniversary and created the souvenir program for its production of The Light in the Piazza.

The Metropolitan Opera:  In 2006, I helped develop a comprehensive marketing strategy for their 2006-07 season, the first under new general manager Peter Gelb.  I also created, wrote and/or designed a variety of brochures, print & radio advertising, e-blasts and other material as well as advised on the Met's re-branding campaign.

The Metropolitan Opera Guild:  I produced the Guild's 2006 gala (a star-studded performance of Master Class at the Broadhurst Theater on Broadway) and its 2004 gala ("Hart to Hart," a tribute to Kitty Carlisle and Moss Hart at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall).  I was also the production coordinator for tributes in 2005 and 2006 to the singers Marian Anderson, Anna Moffo, Birgit Nillson and Rise Stevens as well as a 2007 celebration of 30 years of Met telecasts that were held at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and Rose Theater.

New York Musical Theater Festival:  In 2006, I researched and wrote a long-range business plan for the organization.  My prior association includes work as an artistic advisor and marketing & development committee member.  I also wrote the script for NYMF's 2006 "Best of the Fest" fundraiser.

Richard Tucker Music Foundation:  I served as scriptwriter and production coordinator for its 2006 "Rising Stars" concert at Alice Tully Hall.

ArtsConnection: In 2006, I created a new marketing plan for this leading non-profit arts education organization that runs programs in New York City's public school system.

Paper Mill Playhouse:  In 2005, I performed an earned income audit and presented a report to the Board.  I also oversaw the launch of PMP's 2005-06 subscription campaign.

Theatre Development Fund:  In 2005, I devised new initiatives to enhance the value of TDF programs for its 75,000 members and expand services to underserved audiences.

NYU Child Study Center: I wrote the keynote speech for actress Uma Thurman to deliver at the Center's 2004 gala.

First as a consultant and then as fulltime Director of Marketing and Special Programming, I rebuilt and expanded the marketing department staff, supervised the 2007-08 season campaign and played an active role in overseeing press and public relations.  Simultaneously, I began the extensive process of re-imagining sales and communications for City Opera under its new leader at that time, Gerard Mortier (he has since resigned from his position as Artistic Director and General Manager).  I oversaw the creation of a new visual identity, a complete overhaul of the company's website and audience development initiatives to relaunch the company for Mr. Mortier's planned first season in 2009-10.  In addition, for the transitional season of 2008-09, I was part of a producing team that devised a year-long series of public events at venues throughout New York's five boroughs -- while City Opera's home at the New York State Theater was being renovated.

2002-2004: MUSICAL THEATRE WORKS (New York, NY)

As Artistic Director of New York’s only not-for-profit theater devoted exclusively to the development of new musicals, I re-activated MTW’s dormant works-in-progress series and established new producing alliances with other theaters.  I also contributed to MTW’s marketing, fundraising and education efforts and the refurbishment of its public spaces.  A dozen new shows blossomed under my leadership, including five projects commissioned by a fund I established.  Although MTW’s board suspended operations in July 2004 due to a lack of sufficient funding, 11 of the new musicals I developed continued on, having been picked up by other not-for-profit and commercial producers across America.

1985-2002: LINCOLN CENTER THEATER (New York, NY)

As a founding staff member, I helped establish this leading not-for-profit theater and worked on dozens of shows over 18 seasons, enjoying a wide range of responsibilities.  As Director of Marketing, I created the department and oversaw a strategic plan which generated total revenue of over $300 million.  A key triumph was LCT’s Membership program, which enrolled a core audience of about 50,000 people and sustained a 95% renewal rate, making it a model for other arts groups around the world seeking a viable alternative to traditional subscription.  Additionally, I worked closely with LCT's Board, senior managers and staff on fundraising, long-range planning, capital improvements and financial management.  As Director of Special Projects, I scouted plays, nurtured new musicals and produced a series of readings/workshops.  I also produced many of LCT’s annual Galas, coordinated 14 cast recordings, and created education programs, including a meet-the-artist ‘Platform’ series I moderated.

1983-1985: ALEXANDER H. COHEN PRODUCTIONS (New York, NY)

As a Staff Associate, I assisted the legendary impresario on the marketing of four Broadway shows and the production of four TV specials, including two Tony Award broadcasts and “Night of 100 Stars II.”  I also scouted projects as Literary Manager.

1982-1983: NEW JERSEY THEATERS

McCarter Theatre (Princeton, NJ): House manager for their music concert series and NewStage (Princeton, NJ): Co-founder and co-manager of a successful summer theater.  I also directed two musicals (including the New Jersey premiere of March of the Falsettos) and ran a popular cabaret series.
