As I noted in my latest news I have begun painting in oils starting in January 2008. I have always wanted to work in oil but I havent had a study until recently where I could handle the additional care required for oil paint. A pleasant surprise to me was the availability of water mixable or soluble oil paints. These water mixable oils present the best of both worlds to the artist, easy clean up of brushes with soap and water but also deliver dramatic color, depth and effects achievable only with oil paint.

I have composed three oil paintings so far, two landscapes and something new, a still life study. I probably wont go back to acrylic for awhile as I am having too much fun seeing what I can do with oil!!!

I have also added a couple of recent landscape paintings in acrylic. A second study of an old red barn on route 3A in Thornton. This was the first barn I painted in a summer scene. Its nice to contrast that warm summer view with a stark image from winter. The other acrylic is a night scene of the pond in my backyard. I was trying to capture the eerily beautiful scene of the moonlight hitting the pond and the effect on the color of the grass, pond and trees.
