On February 21st 2004 at 9:04 AM, our daughter Avery was born via C-section.  She was born with a rare form of dwarfism known as Campomelic Dysplasia, which effects several systems of the body.   The cause is believed to be a "fluke of nature."  Most children born with Campomelic Dysplasia will not survive to their first birthday.  There are survivors! We chose to fight for our daughter...............

The letter A is for our AngelAvery

When you have just seen her face for the first time over and over,

While the body unknowingly prepares to care for such a child destined for heaven,

When your arms have received the glorious gift of life to return the miracle whence she came,

When you swear your heart will die with her last beat,

When you can not tuck her in at night and must trust the other angels to be the dutiful parents in your absence,

When you swear at night you can still feel her kicking your ribs,

When others think you’re insane from walking left instead of right,

When you should have known the experts were right,

When others to tell you to have a second child,

When your heart only knows and wants one,

When nature has decided to form you right and Avery not,

When you swear you would flown any where or paid anything to have what was not yours,

When you treasured the minutes of your life was your body was not your own.

When you have spent each night before hoping and praying,

When it has become a nightly ritual for you and your husband to feel the baby kick,

When you were told this was the fate and you witness the event were the cord was cut,

When you wish you could keep her inside forever and protect her from this uncertain  life,

When all you get is a day,

When the clock will bring a day Angel Avery is not in your arms or body,

When her eyes look to you in pain,

When you know she is responding to you because she recognizes you as her parents,

Kiss and hug her tight.

Watch her return.

Release the Avery Angel as if she was a dove into your faith from whence she came.
