The dinette table iwas the first of many projects that needed to be completed to make the Tow Vehicle a fully functional motorhome in it's own right.

Building the Dinette Table
The dinette table has to serve several purposes. It needs to be a dining table. It needs to be a desk. It needs to be a mobile office, and it needs to store maps and dining utensils.

The table top is made from 3/8" x 2 1/2" Mirage Select Maple flooring laminated to 3/4" Birch 7-layer plywood. It has just been glued up in the picture on the right.

Table Top Map Pockets

There are two map pockets built into the table top and base. The base sits on the back side of the "U" where it will be mounted. There will be a support post from the front of the table top to the floor of the truck.

The two map pockets are sized for folding maps and for "Gazetter" Atlases. Yes, I know that this is the exact same size as Cosmo, Living, etc., and I'm sure that the maps will be forced to co-habitate. The base is 13 1/2" high by 29 1/4" wide, by 10" deep. Along with the maps there will be two small cubby holes for napkins, salt, pepper, and flatware.

Finally, there is a small drawer under the smaller map pocket.

The pictures show the upper edges of the map pockets just after they were laminated, the left cubby hole and the small drawer, and the edge banding just after it was attached.

The edge banding is made out of 3/4" x 1 1/2" maple.

Edge Banding

The table top was finished with three coats of satin polyurethane. This makes all of the new maple parts blend nicely with the prefinished wood used on the sirface.

It was installed with PL 400 construction adhesive and secured to the back side of the lower bunk ledge with 6 2" x 1/4" carriage bolts.

The front edge is supported with a chrome pole. Th epole is set into a closet pole socket on the underside of the table and set into a small cut out in the carpet.
