Why only Four Pads?

The simple answer is that five (5) pads requires a health inspection and commercial grade septic system. So, only four camp pads.

The major grading for the pads has to be done while the road is going in. Work to actually install the pads is dependent on the water system, extending the electrical system, and installing the sewer system.

The land before pad construction we thought was relatively flat. It wasn't until Pad #4 went in and the back edge of the pad required 12' of excavation that the complete extent of the excavation became evident. Approximately 50 trees were pulled out of the back edge of the pads, most from behind pads #1 and #2.

Why This Location For Pads?

The view is spectacular. On a late summer night, the sky is an amazing shade of blue.

Preparation

Several trees were removed from the back of each pad to make room for the storm water drainage ditch. The four pads will be stepped to make best use of the original topography.

Surpises and Status

On the second cut of Pad #4, we found a spring in the back corner. A smaller retention wall (riprap) will need to go in here to stabilize the embankment. Pads #1 and #4 are finish grade. Pad #3 needs to come down another 24", while Pad #2 will come down a foot. We will build a small rip rap wall in the back corner to stabilize the spring.

"Just Weight" is on Pad #1 for the summer of 2009 and by the end of the year we hope to have the retention wall done.

Progress at End of 2009 - Thanksgiving

At the end of 2009, all of the pads are at finish grade. In the spring, the last three items can be done to complete the pads.

Stabilize the embankments between them.
Install the utility connections.
Put a finish layer of stone on the surface.

It looks like serious snowfall coming this week, so work on the pads is done for 2009.
