The day we moved into our house, my wife wanted the blue foyer carpet replaced. It was worn and in need of replacement. I had to agree, but I didn't want to just do carpet and it wasn't at the top of the "honey-do" list.

I changed careers this year, trading in the high-tech rollercoaster ride, for the simple life of a carpenter. I was afforded the opportunity to apprentice for a week learning how to install pre-finished hardwood floors. One thing lead to another, and my wife's christmas gift took on a life of it's own.

Foyer and Upper Staircase Before

The blue carpet was original, 15 years old, and permanently stained.

Upper Staircase

The stairs are 52" wide and 11" deep. Each stair is a laminated block of natural maple. The risers are made out of mahogany stained flooring. This gives nice horizontal lines that accent the width of the stairwell.

The upper stairwell has the same blue carpet and bland walls found in the foyer.

Dining Room Surprise

Under the dining room carpet was a pleasant little surprise, two sections of subfloor that were completely delaminated and fractured. The only option, demolish and replace.
