What is Marriage?

What is marriage? It is a holy union between one man and one woman for the sole purpose of creating a family unit. Just because society gives certain legal status to a married couple does not change it's fundamental purpose, procreation.

I am embarrassed to live in Massachusetts. The term "Gay Marriage" is an abomination on the surface. Did I mention that John Kerry is from Massachusetts and scores higher on the liberal scorecard than Ted Kennedy? Just checking.

Families created under the illusion of Gay Marriage are not natural. This not about rights nearly as much as it is about selfishness and ego. Having a child is not an individual right. It is a natural occurance between one man and one woman. The natural laws of biology dictate that a child can only be created through parental loins. To desire a family is natural, but this must be a shared desire of one man and one woman, anything less than that is driven by selfishness. Isn't it obvious that God knew there would be homosexuals, and he decided that they should not regenerate by making it biologically impossible for them to produce offspring?

That being said, there is a legal need for a civil union. Please read on.

If two individuals have spent their lives together, a lifetime as friends, co-dependant on each other, then the rights of survivorship for the material things of man between these two individuals must be maintained. A civil union is a legal mechanism to determine both the status of material assets between two people, and allow an individual to determine who is their recognized next of kin.

If two people have established a relationship with each other, then they should have the right to determine who is their next of kin. Today, this is not possible. Even with the various legal mechanisms available today, they are often challenged against the very wishes of the individual that they represent.

There needs to be an automatic mechanism to allow a legally recognized next of kin to be declared.

Instead, man's law recognizes blood lines and recorded marriages only to establish this right. God gave us the ability and right to determine our own course. God loves all of us so much, that he allows us to make wrong decisions. Today, this basic human right that is limited by man's law.

I can not condone or approve of a homosexual relationship, however, my faith compels me to respect and love those that do. Ultimately, God will hold us all accountable, and for believers, we will be judged by how we loved others. It's easy to love believers, the real test is how do we love non-believers? It's a fine line between loving a non-believer, and supporting their non-belief.

A civil union walks this very fine line. It allows a person to declare their next of kin. It is a legal recognition of this arrangement without weakening marriage, or condoning gay behavior.

Governement recognition of marriage is four parts, a recognition of the religious agreement between one man and one woman, establishing a biological union to procreate, establishing rules for the dissolution and redistribution of assets, and establishing a next of kin entity outside of the familial blood line.

Although you are married in a church, how many are divorced in a church? A divorce is the dissolution of the government asset agreement, but has very little bearing on the religious pact. The laws of nature prevent the procreation component.

You can not have a marriage without all four parts. Gay Marriage is an affront to every couple who embrace the true meaning of marriage.

Marriage is a solemn agreement between a man and a woman.

A civil union establishes a recognized next of kin and a structure for the dissolution of assets.

Finally, the answer is YES. A marriage performed by a Justice of the Peace, Ship's Captain, etc.. Is a Civil Union, not a Marriage.
