The Island cooktop was one of my most challenging projects. The custom stone countertop was fabricated and installed by the folks at The Stone Yard.

They took my primative design notes with a few specific measurements and then fabricated an exquisite countertop out of Black Galaxy granite. Can't say enough nice things about them.

Before

The cooktop was in really bad shape and not sealed, therefore 15 years of cooking spills had seeped inside the cabinet and so it just had to go.

Floor Preperation

The old island was cut into peach marble with no chance of matching it. The existing hole was rectangular and didn't line up with the new island, so the solution was obvious, cut an oval and do a granite inlay. (Did I mention that this was my very 1st tile job?) One word - DUST

The granite inlay was laid around the table so that the gas line chase could be secured to the subfloor. I know I should have laid the tile under the island, but when all was said and done, attachment was much easier. Once again, 1st tile job, I'll know better next time. It took an hour to get the tile in the foreground to fit right. Most of the time was spent being really careful not to break the wing off.

Cooktop Installed

The Fisher-Paykel cooktop was converted to LP and installed. Port adjustment took a little while as finding a screwdriver thin and long enough to thread down to the adjustment screw took some time.
