Circumcision: The Ceremony

The ceremony consist of the following.

  1. A quorum of ten adults is requested but not required.

  2. During the ceremony HONORS are divided among the family members and close relatives. After all the preparations are made, the Mohel or an appointed person will announce KVATER, the ceremony begins as follow.

  3. Kvater the person who brings in the baby to the area where the BRIT is taking place, everyone then welcomes the baby by saying tcv lurc

  4. The CHAIR of ELIJAH, one of the honorary will place the baby on a designated chair, and for the time being is being called uvhkt txf the chair of Elijah. A little prayer is recited by the MOHEL.

  5. The baby is handed to the SANDAK who will be holding the baby during the actual BRIT for about a minute.

  6. The Mohel recites the blessing and performs the Brit, then the FATHER recites a blessing, for entering the child into the covenant of our father Abraham, the family and the guests responds with the good wishes, " as you have entered him into the covenant of Abraham so you may merit to the HUPA the wedding and to the good deeds." AMEN

  7. The baby is handed to the Standing SANDAK who will hold him while the MOHEL or a Rabbi attending or a member of the family who is a fast reader officially names the baby. Then everyone attending announces MAZAL TOV.

  8. The baby is then taken to the Mother by the second KVATER to nurse.

While the baby is being fed the family and guests enjoys whatever mealprepared for the occasion. This is how most of the BRITIOT are conducted, however there are some who

would like to some reading by family members, add some music, and some speeches, the Mohel recommendation is always "Please make it short" Some mothers prefer to stay and watch the whole ceremony while there others who decides not watch the actual circumcision.
