Did You Know?

The Greyhound breed of dog originated in Egypt more than 5,000 years ago.

Greyhounds are capable of running at speeds of more than 40 mph.

The breed was so respected in the 1200s that the killing a Greyhound carried the same punishment as killing a man.

The dog was frequently presented as a gift, and Britain's King John was known to accept the dogs in place of tax payments.

Though the animals were used for coursing -- chasing a live animal through a type of obstacle course --track racing originated in the United States and became popular in the 1920s.
