Rev Beth Stroud

All Together Now is proud to announce that we will have the defrocked pastor, Beth Stroud, speaking at our event Sunday November 5, 2006 at 3 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church in Bethlehem.

She was tried by a United Methodist court and went through two appeals to the Judicial Council of the United Methodist court where her case ended.  The Judicial Council is the supreme court of that denomination.  She has a web site that gives more information at http://www.bethstroud.info .

Beth is a tremendous role model as a Christian and her coming out to the United Methodist Church is an inspiration to us all.

Beth still serves the First United Methodist Church of Germantown, Pennsylvania, as an associate lay minister visiting the sick and leading the youth group.

She does all those things however, without the title of "the Reverend".  Her robes and colorful stoles hang in a closet.  She no longer presides over sacraments such as communion and baptism.

The graphic below, was prepared by Bruce McNeel, for the bulletin cover on April 27, 2003, which was Beth's coming out sermon at First United Methodist Church of Germantown (www.fumcog.org).  The quote is by Malcolm Boyd in his book, Take Off the Masks (1993, p 6).
