Current associate members:
Full Members: The key requirements for membership on the Westminster DTC are that you are a registered Democrat and live in Westminster, Massachusetts. Membership also requires that you pledge to do the following: • Only publicly support or give monetary contributions to Democratic candidates. (Neither is mandated by the committee.) • Not use the Party name and resources without permission. To join in between Presidential Primaries, the first step is to let the chair of the DTC know at westminsterdtc@gmail.com. The second step is to attend an upcoming DTC meeting or caucus to meet us and be voted onto the committee. The third step is to file the proper paperwork with the Town Clerk to be listed on the ballot of the next Presidential Primary. (This will be on Super Tuesday 2012.) We are limited to 35 full members; 8 seats were available as of February 5, 2008. Associate Members: If you are a registered Democrat interested in becoming a member, but there are no full-member seats available, there is another way you can be involved with the committee until there is an opening. You may ask in writing to be an associate member. (Please contact the DTC for details at westminsterdtc@gmail.com.) This option will keep you informed of our decisions, activities and election-time volunteer opportunities. Associate members are not allowed to vote on committee issues. However, associate members must pledge to do the following: • Only publicly support or give monetary contributions to Democratic candidates. (Neither is mandated by the committee.) • Not use the Party name and resources without permission. Members Emeriti: Members who have served on the committee for 20 years or more are required by the state Party to vacate their positions and become what the state Party calls “voting members.” We call them "Members Emeriti." In recognition of their tenure on the committee, these members receive a “lifetime achievement” certificate from the committee officers. This distinction provides room on the committee for new members. Removal Process: Article XVI of Westminster DTC bylaws: Members and officers pledge themselves, as elected officials, to perform diligently and honorably their duties or resign. Members of town and ward committees may be removed by procedures guaranteeing adequate notice and due process and by a majority vote of the entire membership of the committee of which he or she is a member for: b. Public support for or monetary contribution to an opponent of a nominee of the Democratic Party. c. Unauthorized use of the Democratic Party name or resources (state or national). A member must be given an opportunity to resign before notice of the hearing on the question of removal is given to the membership of the committee. A member removed under this section shall have 30 days to appeal to the Judicial Council (State Committee), and the vacancy may not be filled in such case until the final decision of the Judicial Council is made. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
