"When last we left our heroes......
It was 1989 and ROXX had spent the last several years establishing themselves as the undisputed
hottest act in the NYC scene. That's not Cleveland boys and girls, that's NEW YORK FUCKIN' CITY! No small feat.. But
still, no solid record contract. A top 40 hit on NY 's "Z-Rock" "Too little Too late",
national and international press , heavy rotation on NJ's WSOU pirate radio, but still no recording contract. After returning from a 2 week stint in Europe, former lead vocalist George "Roxi" Hall decides to part ways
with the band ..a void was left.... ROXX went on a national campaign to recruit a new voice and frontman for themselves.
After countless audtions , including many people flying in from all over the country, the boys found their answer right in
their own back yard. Enter Lead Vocalist/ Frontman, Joey D'Angeli -fresh off the auditions for the new up and coming
metal gods SKID ROW. Joey had worked and rehearsed with the "Skids" for about two months until
the fateful day when a tall blonde Canadian stepped into the picture and the rest was history.. Though disappointed,
Joey believed that everything happens for a reason......ENTER ROXX.
After the initial audition, and a few months of writing and collaborating with the band,
the boys knew they had their man! The ROXX machine had started up again full throttle. Writing , recording and
performing at a feverish pace, the "new" ROXX had a more sophisticated and polished sound as they developed themselves
into a complete arena rock package. The boys shopped to many major labels over and over again....still, no record contract. Roxx
would not take no for an answer. Every aspect and angle of the product was scrutinized and perfected, it was all or nothing.
SKID ROW were even kind enough to offer the boys permission to use a "Skids" song that Joey D worked on with
them called "Dirty Love". Still, ......you know the story. The band continued at the elusive record deal for about 3
years. The pressure began taking it's toll on the members of ROXX , breaking them down little by little. It was
also apparent by this time that rock & roll music was changing and it was only a matter of time until the days of "glam
hair metal" were all but gone. Without an outlet for ROXX to move forward, the band simply dissolved.
How this band got passed on by almost every major label and fell between the cracks
is possibly one of the more bizzare and unlucky stories in Rock & Roll.
If signed to a major label, the tracks that are compiled on "OULAWS, FOOLS & THIEVES"
would have been released in the late 80's as a ROXX first full length album....Remember THAT word ..??
Outlaws , Fools & Thieves is a cohesive album. Like our first CD, ROXX has managed to
use a sort of time travel , forgotten in the early 1990's to resurface here in 2004. This is fresh out of the 1980's
GLAM ROCK SCENE. Nothing but mastering has been done to these tracks. The band and the music have truly stood the test
of time in many ways. ROXX has managed to leave it's sleazy little fingerprint on NYC rock music. You never know, you
may be browsing through old vintage Rock & Roll clothing stores in Greenwich Villiage and find yourself staring at
at a "fossil" ROXX T- shirt , or maybe cruising down the Jersey turnpike and notice the old pink
and black ROXX logo sticker faint and disappearing from the sun beating down on a toll basket.
If you were part of the 80's and 90's scene in NYC and NJ, you would have had to have lived
under a rock not to have heard of ROXX ....Many of you still humm the songs and remember the unforgettable shows and
after show parties that ROXX were famous for. We are all proud of what we did and what we took part of without knowing what
it was....THE BEST TIMES OF OUR LIVES,- THE 80'S METAL SCENE!. Look around you now, on VH-1 & MTV, they can't get
enough of us glamsters!! Things have come sort of "full circle" for us, and we hope that you all enjoy what we left behind.
Thank you for keeping our legend alive and for remembering us after all these years! A special heartfelt thanks to Tom and
everyone over at PERRIS RECORDS for believing in us enough to ressurect our legacy and our musical career.
Now , sit back, crank the volume, and remember the good times !!
Eventually, everything "Turns to gold"..
- ROXX
