Greatest Hits was a very well done episode that set the stage for the
season finale.
Jack is back and seems clearer and more certain of himself than ever
before. Turns out he's in league with Danielle and plans to wipe out the Others raidung party.
We also learned why (at least one of the reasons anyway) the
name of the season finale is Through The Looking Glass. Seems there's an underwater station called the Looking Glass that
the Others jam Danielle's (and anyone else's) radio transmissions from.
As we've seen in the past there's usually a double entendre to the episodes
titles. Tonight when Naomi finds out that Charlie was part of Drive Shaft she tells him that the band has had a resurgence
since his death and has just released a "greatest hits" album. Later, when he's saying goodbye to Desmond, Charlie tells
him the note for Claire is a list of the five greatest moments in his life, saying "it's a list of my greatest hits".
We also find out that the DS ring Charlie's brother gives him doesn't
stand for Drive Shaft, it stands for Dexter Stratton and that the brothers named the band in his honor. The way Liam
wanted to make sure the ring passed hands while he was still coherent indicates that there is great meaning to it.
While we're on the subject of Charlie, was that Sayid's lost love Nadia
that he rescued in the Covent Garden alley? She calls him a hero and I'm begining to think he just may be. And who were the
two women who came out with their guns blazing inside the Looking Glass, Others, Dharma, or Naomi-ites? Or maybe a combo of
the last two?
Once again this episode focused mainly on doing the right thing. Everybody
seems to be getting on board except Ben. After tonight I'm more apt to believe that the Others are plotting against
him and weren't just playing along with him to set Locke up last week.
When Karl shows up to warn the Losties that the Others are coming ahead
of schedule my first thought was that Juliet had told them the wrong day and was continuing to play them. Then we see in a
flashback that it's Ben's idea to move up the raid, probably because he wants to keep his people moving so they won't
be thinking about Locke's "accident". He comes off as petty and spiteful in this scene and perhaps that will be his undoing
in the end.
One other weird thing, notice what Alex was dressing for dinner...domestic
white rabbit. I think she wasn't expecting Ben to come back and was going to cook his pet and serve it to Carl as a parting
shot to old bug eyes.
Anyway, I've got to finish later but let me give you one last thing
to ponder:
This week EVERYONE stepped up to the plate, especially Charlie and Jack.
Even Danielle seems to be making a stand. Could it be that Locke in his dying moments has willed his faith on to them all?
Perhaps he, or his spirit, is driving them to carry on his quest.
