Another great column. I really enjoy his stuff.

I think Doc's idea that Ben has been flashing all along makes a lot of sense. I like his term “future facilitator”. Ben seems to know (or think he knows) what’s going to happen, and after last seasons background info on him I think it has to be knowledge passed on to him, either through flashes or from Jacob. When he arrived there he appeared to be just a normal kid.

I think the island, or perhaps people like Ms. Hawking and Brother Campbell are responsible for Desmond’s flashes. It’s entirely possible that there are “keepers of the knowledge”, kind of the island’s (or maybe even humanities) caretakers. It’s possible that there are two sides to these caretakers, the black and the white, if you will (now where have we heard that before?). Jacob could well be the provider of Ben’s foreknowledge of events. As you may remember, I’m a huge proponent of a “Stand” type of scenario occurring here. The island may be a battleground between good and evil with the fate of mankind as the ultimate conclusion.

As for the Orchid video - Doc mentioned in his last article that the big question about the Dharma Initiative is whether it’s an inquiry into the field of science or a massive psychology experiment. For me, the choppy video we saw made me think of the strange “voyeur” type video we saw in the Lost experience where someone (Mittlewerk?) was training people to go somewhere and perpetuate a hoax. I have a feeling that although some wild experiments were/are occurring on the island, the Dharma part is the cover. An elaborate scheme to shield what was really happening there. It would certainly be a good way to get equipment to the island without raising too many questions. Just some hippy scientists doing their thing if anyone got too curious. All of the Candle/Wickmon/Halowax videos could be a part of it. He protests in the video that he’s a scientist, not an actor. Perhaps he’s really both. In on the real doings but making the videos to perpetuate the myth.
