Not a bad start. Teleporting, Smokey and stone cold killers.
Ben appears in the middle of nowhere, the Sahara to be exact, and that's just
the first of many interesting developments in this episode. It was action packed and chock full of clues.
Aside from Ben's apparent teleporting, we also saw that he has some control over
Smokie. Nice secret weapon, but I'm not sure why he waited so long to use it though. If I had an attack dog like that, I would
have loosed him as soon as I heard the 14J warning.
Anyway, although Ben came out on top he appeared to be severely shaken by the
outcome, and I don't think it was just because of Alex's death. It seemed that he expected things to go according to
a script, almost as if he had seen the outcome already or perhaps lived through it before, and when things didn't go exactly
as planned he was stunned at first, and then totally pissed.
In the end, he confronted the man that he felt "had changed the rules", and we got more
of an idea (but not much more) of what underlies this story. Two powerfull men trying to outwit each other for control
of the island.
That's it for now. Check out the screen caps. The parka Ben has on says Halliwax on
it (Dr. Marvin's coat, perhaps?) and has a Dharma logo (the Orchid?), and there's also some pics of Smokey.
Oh, one last thing. Last night I came away with the impression that the thing Ben pulled
out of his pocket was some kind of device or talisman. I had no idea what it was.
After further review, I have to agree with a lot of you out there that it was a collapsible
baton or nightstick. I'm still convinced though that he has the ability to lull his enemies into a more submissive posture.
Is it through great insight and superior intellect, or is it, as rockmomma suggested on the boards today, some kind of
Jedi like mindtrick? Don't know.
