Lets
go racing.
Cars need only be street legal to race (which
requires valid regristration, inspection and insurance). Can anyone race? Yes
they can, as long as the driver has a valid license.
A mandatory drivers meeting is held before the racing starts, to educate new drivers and remind veteran drivers
of the rules and safety procedures. Cars, Bikes, Trucks (big and small), Rat Rods,
Hot Rods, Classics and even the family mini van compete for bragging rights of who is the fastest.
Drivers challenge each other to see who has the fastest set of wheels
in town. Next it’s off to the burnout area, where the Shippenville Fire Department keeps water on the burnout box. Cars
pull up into the box to spin their tires, this heats them up for a better grip on the starting line. When the starting line
boss gives the signal, you roll up to the start line, where your eyes come in contact with the famous Miss Flashlight Girl
with her million candlepower light that will start the race. With a blast of the light, you are off and running for the next
eighth mile as fast as you can go. First one across the line lights up the arrow and is declared the winner. Cheers from the
crowd salute the winner for a great race.
If
you have not had a chance to see the races yet, its too late this year, but we will be racing next year. Great food is always available at the Airport from several vendors. Please remember, this is a family
event and alcohol is prohibited.
