Since our start in October 2003, the Philadelphia, PA Chapter has delivered over 9,500 blankets to children in need of a big hug.

National Volunteer week is April 28, 2008 - May 3, 2008.  Our thanks to all our volunteers who help make the Philadelphia Chapter such a success.

Camp Erin 2008 Information

"Camp Erin is the largest network of bereavement camps in the country – with 18 camps located in 12 states. The Moyer Foundation wishes to bring Camp Erin to more communities and more grieving children everywhere – because no child should grieve alone."

For 2008, the Philadelphia chapter will once again be supporting Camp Erin, by providing quilts to the children attending the camp.

In case you missed it last year, Camp Erin is a bereavement camp for grieving children age 6-17 that have suffered the loss of a close family member.

The camp is sponsored by the Wissahickon Hospice and Moyer Foundation.

Last year we were able to provide 45 beautiful handmade quilts for the children.  This year the camp is expecting 100 children, which means we are in need of 100 quilts.

It’s a tall order, but we know with everyone’s help we can reach our goal.  The camp is being held August 15, 2008.  We need to receive all completed quilts by the beginning of August.

If you can help by making a quilt, please let me know. Minimum size needed is 50"x70".

On the pattern page I put an easy quilt pattern that can be used or feel free to use your own favorite pattern.  Also on the Camp Erin page are pictures and thank you notes from last year’s camp.

Below are a few Camp Erin links that provide much more information about what the camp does.

Upcoming events:
August 5, 2008, the Philadelphia Phillies will be hosting the 2nd annual Stitch n' Pitch game.  Last year over 1,400 stitchers came out and enjoyed the game.  Tickets are available from the Phillies ticket page.  You need to use the special code of "stitch" to get the reduced ticket price.

Mission Statement

Project Linus is a volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission.

♥ First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

♥ Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

Q. What type of blanket does Project Linus accept?

A. Project Linus accepts all styles of blankets… you don’t have to be an expert! Blankets may be quilted, tied, knitted, crocheted or fleece, etc. They must be new, handmade, and washable. Elaborate or simple, they are all beautiful to a child.

Q. What about sizes?

A. Project Linus accepts blankets in all sizes. We donate to children infants through teen years, so any size is appropriate.

Q. Do the children keep the blankets?

A. Absolutely. Project Linus blankets are a gift for them to keep and take home.

Project Linus is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

Anyone, any age can help these children. It’s within your power to make a difference!
