Home Author Characters Prior Book Next Book Connie Blair sails to Bermuda with Georgia Cameron to do advertising work for the Tremont Shop. On the ship, they meet David Scott, who has inherited his Aunt Penny's house, who was also a famous author. David tells Connie that his deceased aunt was completing a book that disappeared when she died and that he is going to Bermuda to find the missing manuscript.
Upon reaching Bermuda, Connie and Georgia meet the son of their client, Philip Tremont at the family’s shop. Georgia and Philip seem quite taken with each other. A mix-up with the hotel reservations leaves the women staying with the Tremont family.
On the way to visit David, Connie meets Joe Murphy, one of Penny's friends who also is calling on David. Mr. Thorndike, Penny's lawyer, appears unexpectedly and wants to speak with David -- alone. He leaves David a portfolio. Joe asks if it's Penny's manuscript, but David tells him that it's just check stubs.
The next day at the house, David mentions to Connie that he hasn't yet gone through the check stubs. Connie offers to go through them when he's urgently called away, leaving Connie alone. It begins to storm and someone locks Connie in an armoire, where she blacks out. After being rescued by Joe, Connie discovers that the stubs are missing.
David and Connie then visit another friend of Penny's, Emily Merriam. They are surprised when she says she knows about the missing manuscript and says that Mr. Thorndike probably stole it.
While David and Connie search Penny's house for the missing manuscript, they try to determine which one of Penny's acquaintances had the best motive for stealing it. Also, Georgia confides to Connie that she and Philip have fallen in love and are engaged.
