Home Author Characters Prior Book Next Book Connie Blair has been instructed by Windham Jones, Reid and Renshaw's art director, to check out Fabian Furs' collection of coats for the furrier's advertising campaign. She talks to Gerald Fabian, the owner, about his ad campaign. Mr. Fabian talks her into buying a muskrat coat because he noticed Connie admiring it. The coat is inexpensive but because it's been dyed it closely resembles the expensive minks in the shop.
Connie buys the coat and as she's walking to the agency comes up with the idea of photographing the coats at the Philadelphia zoo. She tells Windham her idea, who then passes it off as his own.
On the morning of the photo shoot, Connie arrives at the zoo with Henry Colt, a stock boy from Fabian's. She is introduced to the publicity director, Andrew Macrae, who is going to attend the shoot. As the photographer, Gregory Rome is arranging a shot of the $15,000 mink coat from Fabian's with a gorilla, it escapes from his cage. Chaos ensues for several minutes and the furs are left unattended. Order is restored but Henry is missing along with the expensive mink coat. Windham says he saw Henry with the coat. He blames Connie for the stolen mink and suggests that she'll get fired.
Later Henry is arrested but Connie doubts his guilt. Andy and Connie search the zoo at night for the stolen mink. Connie finds the stolen mink and tricks the thief by substituting her inexpensive muskrat coat for the valuable mink. After the switch, the thief catches them and locks Andrew and Connie in the zoo's refrigerator. They escape by eventually finding the safety catch. The next day Connie returns the mink coat, the identity of the thief is revealed, and Henry is released from jail.
