From FAW JV Boys Coach for game played Sunday, January 30th, 2011

 

FAW and SPS JV boys staged a very tight contest at FAW.  SPS  jumped out to an early lead behind good passing and shot selection.    SPS led at the end of the 1st quarter and at half.  Midway through the third quarter, SPS led 14-7.  FAW clamped down on the defensive end with quick hands and was able to tie the game at 14 by the end of the third quarter.  Jon Pappas scored four or his nine points in the final quarter to put the game away.  Tyler Vallandingham was a scrapper on the boards and his defensive rebounding in the last two quarters helped to put the game away.

From FAW JV Boys Coach for game played Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

 

FAW and OLSS JV boys tangled at the FAW court for four quarters.  FAW jumped out to a quick first quarter lead behind strong aggressive team defense and Joseph Tennyson’s sharp shooting for six points and Mitch Sweeney’s five points.    Really balanced scoring kept FAW leading the game during the next three quarters.  Brad Bell and Jon Pappas scored in the second quarter.  Murphy Taylor and Eric Thomas scored for FAW in the third, while Jake Floyd rounded out the scoring for FAW in the fourth.  Nenf for OLSS displayed a great outside shooting touch to lead OLSS with eight points and Dziekewicz chipped in with four more.

From FAW JV Boys Coach for game played Sunday, January 16th, 2011

 

FAW and SJ JV boys played a fast paced game on the big St. John’s court.  FAW jumped out to a quick first half lead behind Joseph Tennyson and Mitch Sweeney’s four points each.  FAW played tenacious defense the first half keeping SJ off-balance.  Callaghan and Wallace were able to break through the defense to score for SJ.  The second half resulted in more FAW scoring led by Jude Luke and Brandon Wentworth.  FAW showed great balance for the entire game with seven different players scoring.

From FAW JV Boys Coach for game played Sunday, January 9th, 2011

 

FAW and SM JV boys battled through a classic height vs. speed battle at FAW.  FAW jumped out to a first half lead behind aggressive defense and tough rebounding.  Tyler Vallandingham led the way battling the SM big men to get rebounds and scored off an offensive rebound.  Jon Pappas led FAW with four points in the first half.  The SM boys size began to show in the third quarter when both Brandon M and Brody hit for four points each.  SM took the lead by one in the fourth quarter, but FAW came back with Jon Pappas scoring four to take over the lead.  Joseph Tennyson closed out the scoring as he had started it to give FAW its final margin of victory.  The FAW boys showed outstanding hustle the entire game in squaring off with the tall and talented SM boys.

From FAW JV Boys Coach for game on Saturday, January 8th, 2011

 

FAW and SMB JV boys played a tight, thrilling game through four quarters and an overtime period to finish in a 15-15 tie.  The game was tied after every quarter and after a thrilling overtime period, the game ended deadlocked.  SMB jumped out to an early lead thanks to first quarter points from Bobby Clagett, while Charlie Heinze led the SMB boys with four points in the 2nd half and overtime.  FAW came back each quarter after SMB took the lead.  Patrick Russell hit a clutch third quarter shot to get FAW back in the game.  Jude Luke had a tremendous fourth quarter defensively and two points to tie the game.  Mitch Sweeney hit the bucket for FAW to tie the game, then Jon Pappas’s potential game winning 18 footer occurred just after the final horn sounded.

Boys JV Game:  December 12, 2010   SPS vs. CHA

 

From SPS JV Coaches:  (Game played 12 Dec 2010)

 

The game between the SPS and CHA JV boys was a real exciting nail biter.  After the first quarter CHA led 4 to 0.  At half time SPS led CHA by 9 to 6.  CHA only down by 2 after third quarter took the lead early in the 4th quarter.  The lead change back and forth with SPS taking the lead back at 15 to 13 on a long three pointer by #8 Malcolm Thorpe. CHA’s  leading scorer #14 Frank M. fouled out with more than 3 minutes left.  Malcolm Thorpe led the charge for SPS with  an additional 4 points to put SPS over the top with a final score of 19 to 16.

FAW and ANS JV boys played a spirited game in a very loud ANS gym.  After a tough defensive first half, ANS lead 8-6 with ANS having very balanced scoring while Jon Pappas sparked FAW with 4 points.  ANS came out strong in the second half with five players scoring, including making all five of their free throws.  FAW came back strong in the fourth quarter, cutting a nine point ANS lead down to two points with one minute left to play.  Down the stretch, the size of ANS came through, getting many crucial rebounds and making critical free throws.  Chris Magiera led the FAW comeback with 4 fourth quarter points and some key steals down the stretch.

FAW and MCS JV boys played a very close game that went down to the final minutes.  The first half ended 8 – 8 as Joseph Tennyson hit two early shots to put FAW into the lead, while Brandon Lowe scored six first half points to bring MCS back.  Jude Luke’s defense and basket gave FAW a one point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but Brandon Lowe scored three quick points to put MCS back into the lead.  Jon Pappas and Mitch Sweeney scored six points in the final three minutes to send FAW to the victory.  Great defense by Jake Floyd, Tyler Vallandingham, and Chris Magiera helped to seal the hard fought game.

FAW and LFS JV boys played a close battle into the second half, then the LFS defense shut down the FAW offense allowing only four second half points.  LFS opened up the second half with a burst of points led by Seth Blevins who hit a three pointer and five total points to put LFS into the lead.  FAW’s Alex Ryan hit a buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter to get it close, but FAW could not get any offense going in the fourth quarter.  Balanced scoring by both teams led to a tight contest.  FAW 5th graders, Jon Pappas, Joseph Tennyson, David Granger, Brandon Wentworth, Brad Bell, and Murphy Taylor along with 6th grader Tyler Vallandingham made terrific debuts in the SYBL.
